Cross-Disciplinary Prefabrication

Eva Eriksson and Kristoffer Tungland introduce the possibilities of prefabrication including better efficiency and reduced risk

To build the Stavanger University Hospital in Stavanger, Norway, Nordic Architects, COWI, and the other firms working on the project collaborated to pioneer a new modular construction approach. They developed their own Revit plug-in that enabled architects, engineers, and MEP professionals to create modules, such as bathrooms, that could be deployed in bulk throughout the one million square-foot structure. By industrializing the construction process and enabling extensive off-site prefabrication, they were able to increase efficiency, control costs, and reduce risk. The project won the team an AEC Excellence Award for Best Digital Project in the Large Building Design category.

About the speakers

Eva Eriksson is an architect who took the leap from AutoCAD and 2D drawings to Revit and the world of 3D in 2007 and never looked back. She’s been working as a BIM manager at Nordic Office of Architecture for the last 5 years.

Kristoffer Tungland is a BIM specialist at COWI, based in Stavanger, Norway. He’s worked in the Engineer Power Systems at COWI for the last 9 years. He holds a degree from the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.
