Extending the Value of BIM to Owners with a Digital Twin

An ever-evolving reflection of a physical building can transform the building lifecycle

In its early years, BIM was primarily adopted as a tool for design, but its potential is finally being extended to the full building lifecycle. Connected construction is enabling more efficient building processes for contractors. And with the advent of digital twins, building owners can apply the possibilities of BIM to the tasks of management, maintenance, and the planning of new projects. A digital twin supports this by bringing together data from BIM models, the construction process, as well as operational sensors and new simulation and analytical tools to create a digital reflection of the actual building—a flexible ecosystem that is constantly updated and always evolving. Robert Bray introduces Autodesk Tandem (originally known as Constructwin), a new digital twin platform from Autodesk that makes it possible to monitor and predict performance and extract insights so that owners can unlock the full value of their data from all parts of the building lifecycle.

About the speaker

Robert Bray is the general manager of Autodesk Tandem. In his more than 20 years at Autodesk, he has served in several product development roles, including leading development for BIM 360 Design and InfraWorks. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri.
