Learn how Autodesk Vehicle Tracking can be used in the preliminary design phase of an airport project. Create and then model the movements of both aircraft and ground support vehicles including push-back manoeuvers. But why stop there? It can also be used to model the movements of vehicles inside airport buildings and help to optimize the design and increase safety. In this class, we will show what a connected structural Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow in Revit software looks like, which will include exploring augmented reality on site. This class will present a new approach to the structural analysis and design workflow. Utilizing Structural Analysis for Revit software and the Dynamo extension in collaboration with third-party software, an automated workflow will be achieved between conceptual model, analysis, and design. The class will show the ability to connect innovative 3D modeling data with traditional calculation methods. By using Revit software as a modeling platform and the Dynamo extension as a data extraction and export tool, this streamlined workflow can revolutionize the current approach to analysis and design. The class will explore this workflow as it has been used for a structural seismic retrofit project located at NASA’s (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Ames Research Center in Moffett Federal Airfield in California. In this class we will be talking about what your options for funding are and how to build a good business.

An increasing number of designers, architects, and engineers are using graph-based visual programming and scripting techniques to generate and optimize design solutions. The Design Computation Symposium is a forum for presenting the results of this new approach to design and for discussing the development and use of computational design tools. With conventional computer-aided design, the designer uses interactive and direct modeling techniques to create or edit the design. By comparison, a computational designer uses scripting and other graph-based programming techniques. The script essentially captures the logic of the design and its execution generates the design solution, or indeed generates numerous design alternatives. This year's symposium features a number of different presentations from accomplished researchers, practitioners, and educators which focus on the fascinating relationship between logic, geometry, architectural form, analysis, simulation, and digital fabrication.

According to "Achieving Spatial Coordination Through BIM", a guide to BIM produced by MCAA, SMANCA, and NECA, shared company-wide databases is a key goal with significant benefits, but one that most MEP firms have not yet achieved. In this presentation, representatives from McKenney's will discuss the value of integrated databases between estimating, detailing, and fabrication, and how their business is better off for it. You'll hear about the tangible rewards that come from aligning processes and databases throughout the organization and how this helps McKenney's be more competitive in a highly competitive industry.

This class will present a new software platform that facilitates information sharing between structural designers and steel material suppliers. The platform provides engineers with current information on material cost and availability in the context of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) in order to facilitate more-informed decisions early in the design process, which can significantly reduce cost and procurement time. In turn, material suppliers benefit from the project information shared by designers to better-forecast demand. We will present the platform architecture (developed collaboratively by Autodesk, Inc.; SteelCentral; and Stanford University) in the context of 2 industry case studies. Representatives from SSOE Group and Gerdau will describe their experiences using the platform from both a designer’s and a supplier’s perspective. Finally, we will engage the audience to discuss the potential of this technology to disrupt traditional workflows and promote innovation. This class will cover how a model-centric workflow can enhance design and detailing for bridge structures. We will examine multiple Autodesk software products including Inventor, Revit, and Infraworks in this process and how they can be used collectively to improve workflows. We will demonstrate how geometry and parametric components generated in Inventor can be sent to Revit for reinforcement by showing how this was implemented in several actual bridge projects. Also, we will explore how recent functionality enhancements in Infraworks and Revit and the interoperability with analysis programs such as Robot Structural Analysis make this process more viable and comprehensive than ever before. Benefits and advantages of the workflow will be discussed, as well as best practices for overcoming some of the current software limitations. This class is designed to help get you started in model-centric workflows by giving multiple examples of how it can be implemented in real bridge projects.
