In addition, access (entitlements) are provided for Revit Cloud Worksharing and Collaboration for Civil 3D software. With these entitlements, it is possible to achieve true collaboration between all members of the project team. Two experts will discuss and demonstrate the workflow for such cloud-based collaboration using Revit software and Civil 3D software. This class will show you how to assess the existing collaborative methods in a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project (Building or Infrastructure) using the Bew-Richards BIM Maturity Model and BS1192 as a reference standard. We will then explain how to identify the potential gaps that could lead to delays and cost inefficiencies and how to eliminate the gaps using workflows and software technology. Typically BIM projects involve multiple disciplines and multiple organizations. To collaborate efficiently and effectively among different disciplines and across different organizations, it is essential to have standard methods and procedures and a common data environment with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

This class covers the implementation of an integrated BIM system inside the Design and Construction Joint Venture (VCGP + ASTALDI) of the Santiago de Chile Airport. On this project, BIM data life cycle starts with model authoring creation using Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D for 354.000 m2 on buildings and 880.000 m2 on infrastructures. Design Review and Constructability Analysis are performed with the support of Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Recap, Infraworks, Navisworks and Tekla Structure. Throughout the project, BIM collaboration and coordination are ensured with Autodesk Navisworks. Connection of BIM models with construction planning (Primavera) is done via Synchro software for 4D simulation. At the end of the project, As Built BIM models (LOD 500) are handed over for O&M software (IBM Maximo) link purposes. A particular attention will be brought to the challenges of implementing such process on a large scale project as well as best practices for BIM deliverables to final clients.

Applications built on Forge software can allow for greater levels of visibility and transparency around sustainability measures by integrating sustainability parameters—such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, and so on—into the design-and-make process through a common data environment with 3D models. Prefabrication and modular construction have become increasingly significant in building design and construction management. BIM (Building Information Modeling) combined with fabrication has enabled integrated architecture and engineering workflows that can embrace these technologies. In industrialized production, the digital model becomes the product. For architecture and engineering professionals, drawing sets rely on symbology and design intent, not on specifics of construction and fabrication. This class will present best practices and procedures for modular off-site fabrication. Focused workflows will be demonstrated using the architectural design and documentation capacity of Autodesk software. The digitally fabricated model produced by Inventor software directly informs both the architectural design and the computer numerical control (CNC) components.

This panel discussion will explore opportunities to manage construction execution by creating a performance-based strategy to align project performance with anticipated outcomes, thus creating the high-performing building. Using principles such as the simple framework (Integrating project delivery 2017; Reed, Fischer, Khanzode, Ashcraft), production planning methods, lean principles, and integrated design and information, the discussion will explain strategy, practice, and vision of future state. The panel will provide insight into the theory and opportunities for improving performance. Once the framework has been agreed on, teams can operate a performance management system by defining the performance criteria and validating performance through data collection for specific and measurable metrics. We’ll look at how system alignment throughout the project lifecycle in a collaborative environment provides transparent and robust information to the team for optimized performance.

The BIM 360 cloud collaboration services are enabling teams to work within an enriched review workflow and letting them execute markups, track issues, and conduct traditional page-turn audits with unprecedented access. We’ll explore the evolving possibilities provided by these Autodesk services to digitize and centralize what is typically a detached workflow. Focused on each module, we’ll demonstrate their applications and best practices, discovered through large project use, which enables the team to become 100% digital using the web interface or mobile applications. We’ll highlight solutions for transitioning a team into BIM 360 software to conduct reviews, and discuss some of the common challenges encountered during this migration.

This class will start by explaining what computational design is then introduce Dynamo, its user interface, scripts and some of its useful applications. We will see how it integrates with Autodesk Civil 3D and where we can leverage it the most with examples from roads and highways, rail and land development. Finally, we will share a list of resources where attendees can resort to when they want to learn more about the software and create their own scripts.

Arcadis started to adopt BIM 360 software in 2016 with a number of lighthouse projects to implement a successful approach developing a well-structured, flexible project foundation for all project type rollouts within BIM 360. It turns out that, for a large engineering company like Arcadis, attempting to undertake a smooth and efficient project setup in BIM 360 with thousands of users and projects, proved challenging. Utilizing FORGE API and Autodesk Consulting, Arcadis was able to implement the required utilities and integrations which let the firm speed up the process of project setup and user assignment significantly and enable bulk operations. In this class, we’ll share our experience on how Arcadis adopted BIM 360, which challenges were faced, and how they were solved. You’ll also learn how Autodesk Consulting supported our BIM 360 adoption using the BIM 360 FORGE API.
