This class will highlight the use of Autodesk Quantity Takeoff software to streamline the preconstruction process for creating cost estimates based on building information models from multiple sources. We will use a recent case study to show off the ability of Quantity Takeoff to maximize the translation of information from the intelligent models into the contractor's estimate. The presentation will highlight the workflow changes inherent when moving from traditional 2D drawings, binders, and spreadsheets to a dynamic, integrated 5D model. This process enables efficient identification and resolution of potential issues. You will learn how to visually communicate the various cost impacts on the estimate to the building owner, designers, and other project stakeholders during and beyond the preconstruction phase. Another Quantity Takeoff benefit is early collaboration between architect and contractor that leads to greater efficiency and reduced risk for owners during construction, at project turnover, and throughout the life of the building.

The concept of BIM Coordinator is fairly new and most of those with the responsibilities of Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination came upon their duties, responsibilities, and title in a roundabout fashion. This class will show the paths that many BIM coordinators, BIM managers, and BIM project team members who are responsible for BIM coordination took to get where they are. The class will also cover common duties, responsibilities, and best practices for the specific items for which most BIM coordinators are responsible.

Sharing CAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) data with project team members who are outside of your organization has its challenges. If outside team members are using software packages that are different than yours, the challenges are multiplied. In this class, we will discuss methods and best practices that you can put in place to help make the data-sharing process go a bit smoother. We will also cover best practices for working on a project that uses integrated project delivery (IPD) and only Autodesk® Revit® software among multidiscipline team members, including taking full advantage of the live model for coordination. We will go from the initial project team kickoff meeting, through "in-progress" coordination meetings, and finally through project delivery.

In this class, we will discuss recent Autodesk Consulting projects with a focus on two new utilities that we are using to help customers. First, we will present the functionality of the COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) Toolkit for Autodesk® Revit® software. COBie is a United States-originated data standard for exchange of building systems information between designers, construction firms, and building owners. The format for delivering construction handover data is a predefined spreadsheet file with specific worksheets, many of which can be populated directly from a Revit intelligent model. The standard has recently been adopted by the United Kingdom and tested on pilot projects using the evolving Revit COBie Toolkit. Next, we will discuss BIM Coordinator. This technology preview, available from Autodesk Labs, assists project team members with building and site grids in Revit and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software to effectively organize the project data in shared or related coordinates. This utility is essential for spatial collaboration across disciplines.

For far too long, capital project owners handed off construction work to contractors and simply got out of the way. They left it to contractors to complete the jobs and hand over the buildings. "Out of sight, out of mind," has been the mantra for many capital project owners. This is no longer acceptable. Capital project owners are taking back construction. And they're using high-tech software, mobile devices, and cloud collaboration to do it. By embedding more in the construction phase, capital project owners are no longer at the whim of their contractors. They're taking ownership! This means full visibility into projects, continuous communication with project teams, rich insights informing decisions, and data standards from design through operations. By taking ownership, operations begin quickly and smoothly, increasing speed to market and revenue. Owners are taking ownership. Today.

As a partner to Delta Air Lines, Burns & McDonnell (BMcD) reached for the sky on this unique terminal design. The program began as a renovation of the existing terminals and evolved into the design of a brand-new consolidated terminal, which included four concourses, a head house, a taxi stack, and a parking garage. In this endeavor, BMcD joined forces with the client, the subconsultants, and the construction manager for a true collaboration. BMcD used an array of Autodesk products across the entire program lifecycle, from design through construction, at the heart of which was Autodesk Forma. Autodesk Forma enabled BMcD and 25 subconsultants to work seamlessly and efficiently on a single platform, across multiple office locations, and through a pandemic. Keeping the terminals fully operational continuously through construction was critical. This project was only possible with the entire team engaged in real time on Autodesk Forma. In the end, the ability to collaborate allowed for an efficient and prestigious design deliverable.
