Autodesk manufacturing customers have a wide range of options for creating rendered images of their designs. This class will give an overview of product and capabilities available to PDMC customers and users within the manufacturing design space, and why and where you would use each one to best effect.

In this session, we’ll look at different strategies for visualizing your design data with Autodesk technology. Utilizing the Large Model Viewer, Inventor Studio, Fusion 360 software, 3ds Max software, Autodesk Rendering in the cloud, and VRED software, you’ll gain a good understanding of where each of these software systems have their strengths and application within industry, and where they can complement each other.

This class provides answers to at least the following questions: How many cloud credits do I need for my renderings? What are sun study, panorama, and illumination renderings? What is the alpha channel option for? Why does my background image not show up or why is it displaced? How can I download cloud renderings? Is there an offline viewer for panorama renderings? How can I share my renderings without sending them by email? We address these and other rendering questions.

Autodesk 3ds Max software has more out-of-the-box rendering options than any other digital content creation (DCC) software available today. In this class, Autodesk Senior Technical Specialist Gary M. Davis explores these different solutions and examines when and why users might choose to use the mental ray®, NVIDIA® iRay®, and Autodesk® 3ds Max® 2012 Quicksilver and Scanline rendering engines. The class also explores uses that combine multiple renderers for more complex workflows.

This class will help to demystify mental ray rendering and present it in a simple way. The class will review seven different design workflows that users will face when rendering with mental ray. It is targeted at Autodesk 3ds Max Design software users who have a good understanding of the 3ds Max Design interface and basic understanding of rendering and photorealistic rendering workflows. This is a rerun class from last year's AU.

Fusion 360 software is a powerful CAD software system, and one of its most powerful capabilities is the Autodesk Rendering environment. This class will cover how to achieve impressive, photo-realistic renderings. Topics will include everything from basic layout and composition to best practices for using materials, lighting, and environment effects. While this class will focus on examples of product design within Fusion 360 software’s rendering environment, the ideas described can be applied to any rendering situation and any rendering program. Compelling renderings are a key tool for successful storytelling of designs and concepts to a wide audience. This class will help you achieve rendering awesomeness.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) has been a buzzword in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry for years—and yet the construction industry as a whole has been slow to adopt the BIM process. In this session, we will investigate the software and processes used by a single construction company to deliver powerful services to our owners, consultant teams, and trade partners. Learn how to integrate technologies such as 4D scheduling/animations, 3D laser scanning, virtual reality mockups, and 360-degree cameras into your projects—improving overall communication and coordination. This presentation will discuss Revit software, ReCap software, Navisworks software, and Autodesk Rendering, with examples of projects that used virtual design from start to finish, as well as projects that benefited from BIM in select areas of the project. The session will summarize a construction company’s BIM journey from BIM-free to BIM as often as possible, on all stages of a project.

Autodesk 360 cloud rendering is now available for 3ds Max 2016 software. In this demonstration you will learn the step-by-step process of sending your renders to the cloud. We will discuss best practices and scene preparation in 3ds Max software, as well as Autodesk 360 rendering settings. If you’ve been using cloud rendering in Revit software, then many of these steps in 3ds Max software should be familiar to you. This might be a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the 3ds Max software environment. For the purely 3ds Max users, we will cover the benefits and limitations of Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform so you have a better understanding of the cloud and how you can capitalize on its power in your workflow.

Most real-time rendering programs that let you bring in your Revit projects show amazing graphics-however, they are limited to one "moment" in time and therefore capture only a near-static project with very little physics or interaction-until now. With Autodesk Live (Revit software's real-time rendering viewer) and a little spice from the Stingray game engine, your projects will become living, breathing buildings as they were meant to be. And it's possible to easily add "the extra spice," such as moving elevators, people, and medical equipment, and supporting vehicle construction equipment. In this class, attendees will learn to use the real-time rendering of Autodesk Live, and learn how to bring Revit models into it. Also, attendees will learn how to bring Autodesk Live models into Stingray to add that extra spice to projects by using real-time rendering and real-time physics.

With its outstanding modelling tool set, Autodesk Maya software is well suited for concept modelling in many industries. Arnold renderer now ships with Maya 2017 as standard so we will cover some of the impressive physically based shader presets such as car paint.

Learn tips and tricks to reduce the rendering time and get the best results.

This class gives you a challenging and fast-paced look at recent advances in mental ray® Standalone 3D rendering software and the NVIDIA® iray® renderer with 2014 Autodesk® software releases. In this class we cover (1) the use of mental ray image-based lighting (IBL) in 3ds Max® 2014 software for product rendering, (2) the use of the Skylight IBL mode for final gathering, (3) the use of String Options in the new UI and through MAXScript to access hidden features of mental ray such as progressive rendering, importons, and irradiance particles, and IBL in 3ds Max 2013, (4) the use of the new Unified Sampling option, and how it compares to previous options (5) the new Architectural and Caustics modes in iray 3.1, and (6) optimal hardware options for using iray.

In this class the attendees will see the workflow used for taking results from Autodesk, Inc.'s, simulation products to its Media & Entertainment products (Showcase software, 3ds Max software, and VRED software) for high-end visualization, rendering, and video production.

This presentation will show the creation of a concept seat, from using Autodesk® Alias® Speedform for creating the design and shape, to Autodesk® Alias® software for detailing like the stitching and other complex details, and finally Autodesk® VRED™ software for creating high-end renderings.

This lab will introduce designers to the real-world use of, and best practices for, rendering Revit software models using 3ds Max software and the NVIDIA iray rendering machine. Learn key techniques for working with Revit software models inside of 3ds Max software, and discover what it takes to render photographic-quality images using the iray rendering machine. Explore the creation and application of the Autodesk, Inc., library materials to quickly create surface textures. Utilize the daylight lighting system to simulate outdoor lighting. This class will introduce the use of traditional architectural photographic techniques and composition for the creation of compelling images. Learn how to control the camera through the use of composition techniques like the rule of thirds and the diagonal method. Use 3ds Max software exposure controls to adjust the scene exposure, and then set up and render using the iray rendering machine. See how you can get ahead of the competition by creating visually compelling, photorealistic renderings using photographic compositions and the iray rendering machine.

3ds Max software offers many different toolsets and workflows that facilitate fast turnaround and short deadlines. In this session, we will explore several different feature sets that users of all skill levels and industry types can use. Specifics will include the easy bringing in of 3D data from other applications and the simple application of material shaders for photoreal and non-photorealistic (NPR) renderings and template-based lighting setups. Additional topics will include the use of the new Max Creation Graph editor for parametric/procedural modeling and animation, as well as several different options for rapid output, including Autodesk 360 cloud rendering. This session is aimed at all user levels and industries with an emphasis on fast turnaround.

From sketches to watercolors, we will explore contemporary trends in the use of digital media for creating non-photorealistic renderings. Covering much more than Adobe® Photoshop® filtering, the class will examine how to create styles that help convey concepts and ideas to clients at various points in the creative process. We will demonstrate tips and tricks for animating various styles. We will also show you how to evaluate client needs to determine appropriate uses of stylized versus non-stylized images.
