It is quite common for companies to manage many projects for one site; however, it requires that the design documents are contained within one entire project to enable consistency in documentation. The documents can be managed in such a way that the projects can all be run concurrently, but updating occurs in one location. In turn, this process enables external use of the data, such as in Autodesk® Navisworks® software or database software that is also managed as a single project/site entity. You will learn how to contain the integrity of site information, such as P&IDs, models, and isometrics. We will outline the requirements and benefits of managing projects in this type of system.

The South China University of Technology (SCUT) robotic team never stop seeking brand-new solutions for improved efficiency and quality workflow from design to manufacturing. Zhen-Po led his team, the South China Tigers, to a first-place RoboMaster 2019 regional championship through the adoption of generative design tools in Fusion 360 software. Zhen-Po was hired by the RoboMaster’s organizer, DJI, an electronics manufacturer in China after graduation. Combining 27 parts to only a single part for the stabilizer mount achieved a final weight of 170 grams—a 42% weight reduction compared to the original computer numerical control (CNC) process. Reducing the material waste while enhancing the strength by generativity adding support, therefore reducing the mass of the robot while ensuring structural integrity, the mechanical team’s entire iterative cost was reduced by 80%, which would not have been possible before.

AutoCAD Plant 3D Isometrics software is a powerful tool for turning your complex plant piping system models into accurate contractor drawings. This class takes a hands-on approach to customization of isometric drawing output from AutoCAD Plant 3D software and goes hand in hand with the use cases outlined in the Getting the Most Out of Plant 3D Isometrics tech talk. To start, this lab will cover the creation of a new iso style. Then we'll continue into the basic customizations found in the Project Setup interface. From there we'll learn to integrate a custom title block and ways to populate its attributes with project data. We'll then tackle more complex output by delving deeper to make advanced tweaks directly in the configuration files. Finally, we'll wrap up by generating an isometric drawing using the newly created iso style.

As technical professionals, we spend years in school and then years studying for licensing exams, and we spend our entire careers pouring over code books and technical manuals. By the time we reach management positions, we are technical experts and excellent project managers . . . but we never learned how to manage people. As it turns out, soft skills are just as important as technical skills, and in the current world climate, much of these management activities are now happening at a distance. This session will offer a forum to discuss various management skills and techniques that will help us all improve our management skills, especially in a remote environment.

Checklists save lives. Surgeons and airline pilots use checklists to make sure they don’t miss important steps in surgery or during flight. Checklists may save the life of an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project as well. This class will cover key steps for getting an AutoCAD Plant 3D software project underway successfully. We’ll also look at how to set up the project directories and drawings for best practices’ use of external references and for utilizing a plant coordinate system. This in turn enables us to overcome the large coordinates issue and actually work with a state plane coordinate system (SPCS)—and far from 0,0 origin! We’ll also demonstrate checklist steps for incorporating models from other Autodesk, Inc., products such as Revit software and Advance Steel software; for successfully generating isometrics and orthographics; and for using an advanced feature in isometrics that creates these isos in the SPCS. You’ll be provided with all of these checklists as a way to retain this information and to expand on them for your AutoCAD Plant 3D software projects.

You may have thought Inventor Nesting software is just geared toward sheet metal components. Learn how to use Inventor Nesting for other types of components and materials. Even if these designs come from AutoCAD software, other 3D CAD applications, IGES/STEP, or they reside in a DXF file format, this session will cover how to use different file formats in your nesting process. From setting up your raw materials, templates, and nesting studies to exporting the results back to your computer numerical control (CNC) process, this class will clearly demonstrate that Inventor Nesting isn't just about sheet metal. In addition, this class will offer an extra bonus demonstrating how the Inventor Nesting interface can be used to optimize a saw cut list and costing study for your bar stock material

In this session, attendees will get a look at how Generative Design in Fusion 360 software can help them improve the way they design and make engineering decisions. We will review the development progress we made throughout the year, and highlight why those features were key to improving how users capitalized on Generative Design. We will also look ahead to how we will be investing in improving our workflows, as well as growing our physics support to expand the types of problems that can easily be solved with Generative Design in Fusion 360. Lastly, we will show a sample of some of the successful customer projects that have been executed throughout the year.

Utilizing BIM for facilities management (FM) has been the utopian dream of BIM enthusiasts since the inception of BIM. A fully parametric BIM can provide immediate access to information from mechanical component types and periodic maintenance records, to fixture and equipment inventories, to seating charts and disaster recovery plans. However, a closer look at the process of delivering FM-BIM shows that a gap exists in integrating facility-related information with intelligent models for efficient handover to support facility management operations. There are many technical challenges posed due to the lack of interoperability of multiple software involved. Also, there are challenges in the process of data gathering due to the current contractual framework. This presentation will take a deeper dive in understanding the process and technology challenges in creating useful FM intelligent models and will propose a road map to turn the utopian dream of BIM for FM into reality.

In this demo, we will walk through a simplified example of capturing real-time manufacturing data (cutting temperatures) from a hobby-class computer numerical control (CNC) router as it machines aluminum, visualizing that data on the visual model of the part being manufactured. Cutting tool and workpiece temperatures are direct indications of cutting efficiency and tool health. Mapping temperatures can help validate and suggest adjustments to feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to achieve the nominal chip load. While this is far from an industrial solution, this demo will show the power of IoT manufacturing within a simplified context to explore the utility and promise of cloud-based manufacturing solutions, built with Forge.

3D models help us to create better-quality products, but also help us to visualize our designs in various ways: 3D images, videos, games, 360 panoramas, virtual tours, augmented reality, virtual reality, and so on. All these are digital and are able to reach a big audience. Sometimes we need to step out of this digital world and go back to the basics! Brick Reality is a partly 3D printed and partly Lego build of a 3D road design. This class will show you how an InfraWorks model was made and turned into visualizations and a 3D-printed/Lego model.

This course will focus on instructing new users on how to use the Inventor CAM add-on to create milling toolpaths. You will learn the key skills and knowledge required to take a 3D model, set it up in the CAM environment, and assign the toolpaths needed to generate the computer numerical control (CNC) code required by milling machines. The demonstration in this class will focus on a simple design that requires 2D milling toolpaths. This will let us stay focused on the workflow and learn how to create the toolpaths. Specifically, we’ll generate the face, 2D adaptive, 2D pocket, 2D contour, and drill toolpaths for the demonstration model. To complete the course, you’ll also learn how to use the Simulation option to visualize the new toolpaths, and how to output the CNC code required to machine a model.

Ever wanted to get hands on with CAM in Fusion 360 software but felt a bit intimidated or didn't know where to begin? Want to see a job set up and run live during the session? Well, this is the class for you! Throughout the last 10 months, the speaker has gone from knowing nothing about machining or CAM to knowing slightly more about machining and CAM! This is the class for CAM newbies! We will go through the process of posting out your first computer numerical control (CNC) job without assumed knowledge. This will involve opening the Manufacture workspace in Fusion 360, creating a setup, creating tools, generating toolpaths, and posting out to machine G-code. We will even have a live demonstration of the running of the CNC job on a machine at University of Warwick's Engineering Build Space!

Learn how you can use InfraWorks software to create base traffic models by importing surfaces, roads, and real traffic data, and defining traffic turning movements. Once the base model is completed, you can use InfraWorks Traffic Simulation to create construction proposals to understand how the level of service is impacted once lanes are shut down, and how an alternate intersection is created to simulate proper vehicle movements at the merging point.

"Data is the new oil.” This quote was made more than 15 years ago, and it's more valid than ever. The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is in possession of massive amounts of data, but often struggles to turn it into profit. BuroHappold actively innovates in the field, building out capacity to extract, process, and interpret the data embedded in its intelligent models at scale. This involves setting up a multilevel framework, including databases and code infrastructure, as well as presentation layers. A prototype of the system provides two main functionalities that deliver three types of information in a flexible and extendible manner: building queries and running them against Revit models (correctness) as well as periodic extraction of model metrics (project progress and performance). The session will guide you through the thought process behind the undertaking and implementation itself, starting from inception to the current state of the project.

Our new processes revolve around Fusion 360 and deliver improvements in process reliability and predictability. Just as importantly, this change let us create a new cloud-based digital customer experience. In this session, we'll look at how we applied Fusion 360 to create our new computer numerical control (CNC) manufacturing processes, and examine how we created the necessary Fusion 360 add-ins. Then we'll show how we took the further step of integrating Fusion 360, and our Fusion 360 add-in (created with the Fusion 360 API), with our cloud-based internal and customer-facing IT system. For our customers, the result is a new cloud-based customer experience that enables orders, reorders, and customization more easily than ever before. See how we went from standardizing on Fusion 360 to making it the core of our digital business transformation.

While product demand is increasing, specialized employees are hard to find. Meanwhile, increasing production efficiency and using less labor is becoming more important every day. In the first half of this class, we will discuss how using multitasking machines can help you increase your throughput, reduce waste, and improve efficiency on your manufacturing floor. Since "multi-tasking” means different things to different people, we will help you navigate the world of turn/mill, turnmill, mill/turn, millturn, and Swiss lathes. Using customer-driven experience and results, we will provide real-world examples comparing traditional machining methods to innovative multitasking techniques. In the second half of the class, Matthew Yates and Josh Postell from Rivian will present how they use Autodesk Fusion 360 software to program their computer numerical control (CNC) machines, and how the latest and upcoming software improvements make them more productive.

What have we learned that we should keep? What place do technical drawings hold in the world of digital prototyping and building information modeling (BIM) projects? How will we communicate design intent in the future? How many people got caught out when we moved from hand drawing to CAD? Will we be next? Maybe technical drawings aren't yet dead, but how must design collaboration and communication adapt to meet our future needs? Join us to review technical drawings past and present, and prepare yourself for the future

The assessment of CAD is extremely resource intensive. Dr. Tom Peach of University College London (UCL) estimates that marking Fusion 360 submissions for a single cohort takes two months of man hours, without even considering the time spent delivering content and supporting students. The session will outline how this entire process was completely automated by Fabrio this year, turning around 1500 submissions within a day. Grades were ready for students 50 times faster, while also improving accuracy. Integrating Fabrio into UCL's teaching plans addressed a number of key pain points faced by institutions across the world, including developing content, low staff-to-student ratios, and general limitations in assessment styles. This session will also highlight how the same learning paradigms can be applied in the corporate space (e.g., onboarding, upskilling, or preparing for certification).

CAM Assist, a new software system from CloudNC, leverages AI to autocomplete much of the difficult work involved with programming a computer numerical control (CNC) machine to manufacture a component. The CAM Assist add-in for Autodesk Fusion 360 is newly available for Autodesk customers. In this session, CloudNC founder Theo Saville shows how CAM Assist generates machining strategies in one click, enabling any user to reduce their CAM programming time and operate at a more advanced level, with greater consistency. CAM Assist helps workshop operators fill the manufacturing skills gap and optimize their team to scale revenue by enabling less-experienced programmers to do far more and machine more-complex components.

This class will illustrate how the collective offerings from EDGE Software, Progress Software Development, and Autodesk enabled a precast facility to adopt higher digitalization and optimization through tech- and data-enabled planning and production processes. We'll take a deep dive into how Revit and Autodesk Fusion 360 software play critical roles in planning precast production beds and servicing CAM workflows through computer numerical control (CNC) technologies. The class will highlight the efficiency gains and ROI that a real-world customer experienced by deploying these technologies.
