Managing CAD and BIM Standards Using Vault
This class is designed to assist you in building a new workflow to utilize Vault software for managing company standards within your organization. It will cover how to set up custom file categories, file lifecycles, user groups to support an innovative way of managing company standards within Vault, along with tracking any changes. We will discuss how to have AutoCAD software, Revit software, or Inventor software to look at the new working folders for updates to standards and content. Finally, we will learn how to automate deploying these changes to all users so they will always have the latest and greatest content and standards as soon as they become available.

We will show workflows with material tracking using level of development (LOD) 400 practices. We will address material procurement, handling, and shipping techniques. In this round-table discussion we will briefly give an overview of the Autodesk, Inc., engagement in the various industry consortia and the existing interfaces for the process plant industry and the oil and gas industry. We would like to learn which interfaces and data formats you're using when you exchange PIDs, line lists, bills of materials, 3D piping, steel, and equipment models with all the associated data. Which interface are you using to receive data from FEED (front end engineering design) and to hand over to stress calculation, project management, and procurement system? Adopting Reality Computing for Plant Design
Over the past few years point clouds have gone from novelty to design requirement. During this time many companies have encountered technological limitations due to insufficient hardware and software solutions. Much has changed. The reality computing technology from Autodesk, Inc., is making laser scan data easier and more efficient to use than ever. This class will examine real Autodesk user experiences regarding how these firms are successfully implementing point cloud data for plant design. Gain insight on the software used, the growing pains experienced in introducing new technology, and the workflows adopted to help users get from the field to completed design. This class will also recommend favorable workflows within Plant Design Suite 2015 software. How Not to Start Your First Huge BIM Process Plant Projects

Laser-Scanning Workflows for Construction Sites: Reality Capture, Modeling, and BIM
Have you ever found yourself working on an architecture, engineering, and construction project with incomplete information about the existing conditions around which you will install new work? In this class, we will explore laser-scanning reality capture workflows that bring honest and accurate measurements to the drafting and coordination tables. This class will focus on needs for implementing laser scanning on your jobsite. We will look at the setup, challenges, and time requirements of using laser scanners on jobsites. Then we will look at postprocessing techniques where raw data is transformed into a coherent point cloud. Next, we will explore the combination point cloud / photo collection product via ReCap software. Last, we will see how to pull the point cloud into design software like Revit software and AutoCAD software for modeling purposes, and how to overlay the point cloud onto 3D models of building elements through Navisworks software and ReCap software (we will review the ReCap software capability to represent models within the photosphere view).

The Integrated Project Team Delivery: 1 Team, 1 Dream
IQL will show how there are different ways of working/interacting with the built environment and explain the integrated project delivery: client, project manager, and main contractor being 1 team with the same goal approach. We'll explain how we developed a strategy, managed the design, and delivered from concept design to project handover using different digital technologies at different stages. This class will demonstrate how we've created a strategy and EIR for a project that will run for the next 8 years and which will attract future tenants. We’ll show this from a project management point of view: management of the design stakeholders, management of design, BIM for master planning, quantification, the use of BIM for visualisation/VR, and BIM as a product to attract tenants. From a construction management view, we'll demonstrate trade design coordination, supply chain management/education, BIM on-site, 4D sequencing and construction optimisation, and BIM use for tenant engagement.

Clash Detective on Fire
Clash detection is more than detecting the intersection of 2 or more objects. The Clash Detective is one of the most powerful tools in Navisworks Manage software. We will examine in detail how to solve firestop-related clashes and how to create consolidated submittals for government authorities. In a multiplatform workflow, you can use models from your preferred MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) application—like Fabrication CADmep software, AutoCAD MEP software, or Revit software—to generate a bill of material, and enable the tool to place hundreds of firestop objects automatically into your Building Information Modeling (BIM) model utilizing the Hilti plug-in for firestop. See how to quickly and easily include into your BIM model UL-Systems details; installation guidance; and X, Y, Z coordinates. Learn how to use Point Layout software to export data to a total station for easy and timesaving placement of cast-ins and sleeves on the construction site. AutoCAD Web: There Can Be Only One
With the release of One AutoCAD software, you can now take your CAD projects on the go with AutoCAD web—the browser-based version of the original AutoCAD software. This course will show you how to set up your desktop installation of AutoCAD to work with A360 Drive, how to save to web and mobile, and how to use AutoCAD web in Google Chrome. You will also learn how to view and edit designs on the fly and in the field from a tablet or smartphone, and discover how to communicate your designs using Viewer. You will learn how to access the tools from any mobile browser, sync your files across devices, upload files on the go, and edit drawings from a mobile browser—or sync them back to the desktop for closer inspection. 3D Multidisciplinary Plant Engineering Collaboration and Execution Using the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection

This class will cover the benefits of using the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection and how its software systems interact and interface. We’ll explore how to set up, model, establish, exchange, and maintain links between various AEC software using Xrefs, SMLX, and Link CAD tools, and discuss how to successfully deliver the final product to clients. Also, we’ll cover how each of these software systems collaborates and interfaces with other AEC software systems to keep your models up to date and maintain the overall project integrity. The AEC software that we’ll cover include AutoCAD software, Advance Steel software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software (piping), Revit software (concrete), AutoCAD MEP software (ducting), ReCap Pro software (scans), NW Manage (interface/clash detection), and Paneldes 3D (an add-on to AutoCAD for electrical cable trays). We’ll highlight some challenges encountered by some modelers from various industries who work on plant engineering projects, and provide best practices and tips to overcome these challenges and ease management and control of plant models.

Routing Pipe in a Crowded Facility Using a Scanner, ReCap Pro, Revit, and Navisworks

While scanning technology is nothing new, improvements in its ease of use are expanding its applications. Using a Leica BLK360 scanner, two designers without prior survey or scanning experience captured a large portion of a wastewater treatment plant’s tunnels and connected facilities in four days, in preparation for a design project. New piping is to be installed in these existing facilities, which are already crowded with piping and equipment—a common scenario in similar long-established facilities. A rough routing drafted in Revit software was added to Navisworks software, along with the point-cloud files, enabling direct interference checks between the two without converting the point cloud to a model. Attendees will discover the detailed workflow they should apply to use this technology, and learn how it was used on this project in Ohio.

Reality Capture Case Study: How DPR Finds Successful Use Cases on a Unique Project
DPR Construction has been using reality capture technology to help build an atypical and complicated office building in downtown Pasadena, California. In this class, the audiences will learn how DPR implements data from UAV and laser scanning, not only for typical deliverables, such as floor flatness/levelness analysis, but also for unique applications, such as shoring-wall deviation analysis, design-change feasibility study, and location of cores and drills for constructability review. With post-tension cables, hundreds of miles of conduits inside the concrete decks, and a fast-paced schedule, the project presents numerous challenges to overcome. However, by utilizing reality capture data in ReCap Pro software and AutoCAD software, the virtual design and construction (VDC) team has brought great value to the design and construction team, had positive impacts on overall project performance, and provided a big return on investment to the owner. The class will cover these use cases and lessons, and highlight tips and tricks for working with reality capture data.

3D Coordination with Navisworks and ReCap 360: A Historic Sports Stadium Renovation
Doing 3D coordination can be challenging enough. Do it in a historic Chicago baseball stadium, which the team still needs to utilize, and "standard" workflows get tossed. Systems need to stay up and running. Fieldwork, observations, and verification of existing conditions can only happen during certain time frames. Some may opt to attempt to model the existing MEP/FP (mechanical, electrical, plumping, fire protection) conditions. However, when you have a very short time frame to get coordination done, coordinating with laser scan data comes into play. In this course, we will go over how we utilized laser scan data with Navisworks software and ReCap software to aid in our 3D MEP/FP coordination efforts. We’ll cover how we utilized ReCap files in Navisworks and vice versa (how we utilized Navisworks content in ReCap). There are some lessons learned and even some wish-list items that would make the process even better.
