The aging of bridges and increased vehicular traffic has made it important that elevated highway structures receive timely and accurate inspections. Today's procedures for inspections require special equipment, disrupt traffic flow, and expose inspection personnel to safety hazards. The advent of drones that can carry cameras in close proximity to elevated structures presents an opportunity to conduct inspections quickly, safely, and effectively. Towards this goal, this class presents an end-to-end system for robotic bridge inspection. The system creates flight missions; evaluates visual quality of data collection; generates 3D models; detects and localizes surface distresses in 3D; and generates reports complying with the requirements of highway agencies. We’ll share lessons learned from deploying this system on 30 bridge inspection projects in the United States and Japan concerning procedures for documenting, communicating, and following up on bridge inspectors’ recommendations.

Have you experienced any of these issues with AutoCAD products: slow opening of drawings, crashing, pausing within AutoCAD, and slow plotting? Clients, sub-consultants, and approving agencies often have DWG™ files that get corrupted. This can cause loss of work and missed deadlines. Drawing corruption can range from small annoying issues to being unable to open or print files. This corruption can affect your files and spread across your projects rapidly. In this session, we will explore methodologies and workflows to prevent files from getting corrupted due to internal and external factors. We will review 7 things that cause drawing slowness, and we’ll show how to repair the drawings.

Designing timber connections is critical to ensure the structural integrity of timber constructions. An artificial system for designing timber connections would typically involve a combination of computational algorithms, databases of material properties, and engineering principles. Integrating AI systems with a code-checking system in Revit software allows engineers to explore different solutions and be certain of compliance with calculation regulations. Grouping and optimizing nodes, analyzing new node solutions, and automatically creating calculation reports in Revit can greatly reduce modeling and analysis efforts. We will also present a system capable of inserting nodes automatically and designing them according to the calculation actions present in Revit.

This class will cover how the Autodesk AEC Collection for Infrastructure can be used for detailed bridge design using InfraWorks, Inventor, and Revit. Join some of the industry's leading infrastructure owners as we discuss their unique experiences, challenges, and lessons learned while developing and managing data to meet the 365/24/7 demands of an infrastructure owner and their overall journeys to a true and trustworthy digital twin. Data plays a critical role in ensuring accurate representation of an airport's physical conditions and operational (and financial) readiness. Inaccurate, outdated, and duplicated data can compromise the effectiveness of an owner's ability to support decision making and operational, maintenance, and financial planning. When trusted and readily available, quality data allows stakeholders to gain valuable insights into the operations, identify bottlenecks, optimize processes, and make informed decisions.

The infrastructure design industry has long struggled to minimize environmental impact. Traditional processes cause inefficiencies, hindering early-stage sustainability prioritization. ORIS and Sweco solved this by embedding ORIS's carbon assessment and emissions modeling capabilities into Autodesk Civil 3D software. ORIS's certified calculator streamlines processes, providing comprehensive impact assessments and quantifying embodied carbon emissions for road designs. The innovative plug-in connects drawings to local material sites in ORIS, empowering whole-lifecycle carbon assessments with visualized supply chains. It automates geolocated project generation linked to ORIS's database, identifies quantities per 3D object for bills of materials, and generates accurate carbon footprints based on required materials. Designers can make informed sustainable-sourcing decisions, reducing emissions while promoting local solutions and recycling. This integration solves long-standing sustainability challenges.
