Making the most of AI while maintaining human oversight in building design and construction
Should we optimize for mass and cost when we build—or should we optimize for accessibility? The truth is: you don’t have to choose. Joachim Viktil, CEO of Reope, an AEC and BIM consulting and software development firm, explores this critical question by highlighting the importance of human judgment in AI-driven design decisions. He shares insights from a case study with the Italian architecture firm ATI Project, illustrating how they leveraged AI to handle massive datasets and improve design efficiency. Viktil emphasizes the need to start with clear design decisions, select the right data, and recognize AI's limitations in making final judgments. He advocates for integrating AI thoughtfully into the design process, using it for tasks it excels at while maintaining human oversight to ensure innovation and accessibility in the built environment.
