This session will provide an overview of 2 new Stormwater Modeling Solutions—Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) and AutoCASE software—that will help civil engineers and landscape architects design for the future. For decades cities drained stormwater with sewers, but these systems are fraught with pollution and flooding issues. In response cities have embraced a new “green infrastructure” approach to managing stormwater—partnering with developers to install absorptive rain gardens and green roofs to harvest water, filter pollutants, and provide a host of other social and environmental benefits. Autodesk, Inc., and its partner Impact Infrastructure have introduced these solutions to support this revolution. As green infrastructure is still a relatively new concept, GSI and AutoCASE software eliminate the learning curve by providing an easy way to design these techniques and analyze their benefits. This session features a case study on using GSI and AutoCASE software for the San Francisco Civic Center Historic District.

The Stormwater Management Model (SWMM) is a powerful analysis engine inside Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis. SWMM empowers both Landscape Architects and Urban Planners analyze sites and create sustainable stormwater solutions. This class uses the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA as case study on how to build a complete SWMM analysis from the ground up including techniques for open channels, bioswales, infiltration trenches, as well as a deep dive into the extended functions of SWWM.   If time allows, also a look at injection wells and more complex BMP routing.  By the end of this class users will have a solid foundation of workflows between Autodesk Civil3D and Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis

This class covers management of combined sewer and stormwater networks, working all the way from industry models in AutoCAD® Map 3D software to analysis in Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis software. We will also explore the use of Autodesk® Infrastructure Modeler and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software to meet design requirements and communicate the intended design. This class will dive into workflows that will streamline everyday tasks by eliminating the unnecessary transfer of data.

This course will give you an overview of civil asset management at Denver International Airport. What are the civil assets? Denver International Airport (DEN) has a campus size of roughly 34,000 acres. DEN Asset Management is tasked with tracking existing and new assets across the entire airport. Learn how the Digital Facilities and Infrastructure (DFI) group in DEN Asset Management manages airport models and asset models. DFI is tracking 200+ projects at the airport. The Autodesk Construction Cloud Asset Module has model linking so that changes to the models are pushed into the Autodesk Build environment in Autodesk Construction Cloud. In this class, you will see a demo of how asset model linking is done based on criteria loaded into the models by our design consultants. DEN is completing an inventory of airfield stormwater structures. You'll learn how the collection of the data via electronic means has saved time and effort. And you'll see how, as an owner, the data can be used as we manage the civil assets into the future across our maintenance and engineering teams.

During this session we’ll dig into the tools and explore tips and techniques that will let you successfully use Inventor software to create custom stormwater structures for use in Civil 3D software and InfraWorks software. We’ll pay special attention to basic part modeling and the required variables so that the parts will export into both products. This class is designed for CAD managers and civil engineers who want to author their own infrastructure content.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is a state agency responsible for more than 550 miles of highway. As design and construction projects increase in complexity, the Commission faces multiple challenges with data management and variations in project deliverables. With advancing technology, their final goal is to implement digital models as a requirement for project bidding. In congruence with current challenges and goals, they partnered with Microdesk to integrate organization standards and initiate the process of building intelligent 3D model designs using Civil 3D software. The solutions included creating master files of all 550+ miles of highway, CAD/BIM standards for project deliverables, and development of intelligent modeling workflows for Corridors, Drainage, and ROW, all with intelligence that is used to feed geographic information systems (GIS) and asset management systems. These solutions provided a reduction in rework, easier access to data, and an integrated system between departments.

Globally, Architecture, Engineering and Consulting (AEC) firms are being asked to conform to mandates for the use of risk-based triple bottom line (TBL) analysis into design decisions starting in the conceptual planning stage. There is an awareness that infrastructure serves the public good and that lowest cost solutions are not sustainable, resilient, or adding to the quality of life of our society. The objective of infrastructure proponents in imposing TBL mandates is to shift from the lowest cost approach to a highest sustainable return on investment approach. The ability to monetize the public benefits of infrastructure via a triple bottom line economic assessment means that designs can be vetted more quickly, stakeholder push-back is reduced, and there is faster approval for the building of more sustainable and resilient infrastructure. This session will show how an AEC firm is helping a public agency use TBL assessment to calculate public value. This session features InfraWorks 360 and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Sewer pipelines are buried and out of sight. They are underinvested in and rapidly deteriorating. There are millions of miles of sewer pipelines that require monitoring to determine the condition and performance of this critical infrastructure. The principal method that utilities use involves closed-circuit television (CCTV) mounted video cameras on crawler units. Video and photographs of the insides of pipes are interpreted by engineers trained in the art of sewer pipeline defect recognition. This time-consuming and expensive process usually carried out in the field is increasingly being challenged by the use of AI and machine learning (ML) image detection and recognition techniques. See how the integration of Autodesk's Info360 Asset SaaS asset management product and VAPAR AI/ML tools will transform the assessment of sewer pipeline conditions, leading to huge cost and efficiency savings and productivity gains. Learn how these inspections are used to identify failure modes and determine the likelihood of failure and remaining life of assets.

Understanding how a sewer network impacts the environment in wet weather is a complex challenge. Sydney Water needs data to prioritize capital investment based on "risk” of impact to the flora/fauna or socially sensitive sites. Sewer overflow structures' discharge rates are extremely variable in their performance (hydraulic and water quality). To comprehend the risk of impact, a fully integrated single ICM model of the area (200 km2) was developed, with sewer pipes (1D) and stormwater pipes (1D), and receiving tidal estuary (2D). This calibrated model simulated hydraulics and water-quality parameters unique to each 1D/2D system. Due to the size of the model and the need to run a 10-year time series, cloud computing was used, which substantially increased run time. The outputs were coupled with the "value” of the receiving environment (for example, swimming beaches). Come to this session to see the real value that an integrated ICM model can bring to the assessment of risk of impact to the receiving environment.

City of Oakland's sewer collection system has a total of 940 miles of pipeline, with an average service life of 50+ years. To maintain and improve the system and prevent costly failures, comprehensive asset management strategies have been needed. The City has augmented its sewer asset management using the Innovyze desktop software InfoAsset Planner, an Innovyze legacy asset management tool. Currently, Autodesk has been working with the City to transition to the cloud solution Info360 Asset due to improved multi-user functionality, expanded data sharing capabilities, and resilient data storage. In this presentation, City of Oakland will share its user experience and present the risk prioritization strategy developed with the help of its consultant team. The City and Autodesk will present how this strategy has been implemented in Info360 Asset, and explain how the product has improved the City's asset management efficiency.

Aqua America is a large water and sewer utility serving eight U.S. states. The utility faces the challenge of efficiently maximizing the management of aging infrastructure in more than 50 wastewater systems in Pennsylvania alone. In 2023, Aqua contracted GHD to implement a Consolidated Planning Level Sewer Program in Pennsylvania, addressing dispersed data sources of condition assessment data and best practices for capital improvement planning at the state, regional, and local levels. This presentation will address the obstacles encountered during the project, and showcase the integration of the Autodesk Info360 Asset and Esri ArcGIS Online cloud platforms to help Aqua efficiently manage significant volumes of closed-circuit TV (CCTV) inspection and other condition assessment data—along with tools to prioritize the riskiest assets, identify projected rehabilitation approaches, and establish capital improvement budgets.

As a part of the Infrastructure Design Suite PowerTrack, this class will highlight detailed design workflows in AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software, using additional tools in Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage, Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis, and Autodesk® Revit® Structure software. The class will examine a bridge and drainage system for a roadway, including layout, analysis, and clash detection. Autodesk® Vault Collaboration AEC software and the Autodesk 360 cloud computing platform will be used throughout the process for collaboration, analysis, and more.

This class will showcase a connected data workflow used to deliver large water and sewer infrastructure projects from design to commissioning. This is accomplished with a systematic use of Civil 3D software and ArcGIS integration, asset data governance, and Industry Foundation classes (IFC) for digital-twin commissioning. The sewer and water designs are first developed in Civil 3D. Dynamo and Python are used to attach a class library as property set data and generate a spreadsheet model database. The spreadsheet is linked to an Esri geodatabase through geoprocessing and Python. This geodatabase is updated with field-collected attribute data and as-built data via Esri Field Maps. The computational process is reversed to update the spreadsheet and subsequently the Civil 3D model. The model is delivered as-built, and an IFC version containing the asset data is exported for the owner's digital-twin ecosystem.
