This class will be all about Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows involving Revit software, MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) Fabrication Solutions, cloud-based coordination, and overall BIM 360 Docs software to secure a high level of collaboration. In this class, we'll present a seamless workflow from the design-intent model to detailed modeling and construction documents. Who would have thought that it could turn out to be a powerful modeler for non-traditional buildings, such as process plants, water treatment plants, or wastewater treatment plants. In this class, we discuss how the MEP tools in Revit benefit these types of jobs; how to work with your content providers to get the best representation possible; how to get more value from BIM models in other products, such as Autodesk® Simulation-based software; and how to position the BIM model to your client and their contractor. Learn what it takes to be competitive in this market with Revit as your primary modeling tool, and do it efficiently.

This class will discuss the uses of Revit families, data, scheduling, and the Revit API to push Revit content to the prefabrication factory floor. We'll discuss what goes into the families, how we condition the families for prefabrication-specific content, and how we pull that content out with custom tools to send to the factory floor. We'll cover the main issues of communication between the design team and the prefabrication team, how we've solved these issues, what we output for the team, and how they use it to create the preconstruction packages.

Extracting data from Revit software and changing existing data within Revit models is exactly what contractors need, and Dynamo software is perfect for these types of jobs. For example, if you want to determine the bottom and side areas of a ramp for formwork calculations, it’s easy to do in Dynamo software. Do you want to split up floor slabs based on pour joints? Or perhaps you need to export all those adaptive component points out to Microsoft Excel? Well, you can also do those tasks with Dynamo software. This class shows the evolution of design-to-fabrication workflows within an integrated project delivery team. By adopting the BIM-MEPAUS Revit MEP software add-in, the design model is efficiently passed through to the construction team for development into a constructable LOD 400 model. Within a single Revit MEP model, services are coordinated and approved for construction while data sets are used for procurement. The model is used for ductwork fabrication using Autodesk® Fabrication CADmep™ software in an integrated workflow. Using Navisworks® Manage, the lead coordinating contractor completes the final coordination using the federated model and finalizes site point positioning setouts using positioning points embedded in the model. The model is passed to the site team and used to support installation. The class demonstrates the workflow through real-life projects, providing practical insights into the multiple benefits that can be used by adopting these workflows.

This class will demonstrate how the Autodesk Fabrication API was used to create an Addin application that will automate the interaction between the CAD/Detailing, Shop Foremen, and Purchasing departments inside a MEP contractor. The CINX Addin presents a Job’s materials using a Spool or Work Order view and provides an electronic material requisition submission capability. Once a requisition has been submitted, the purchasing department can use CINX to deliver integrated transactions to their wholesale distributors. Shop Foremen are then able to monitor the status of the ordered materials and be alerted to when products are back-ordered. GTP Solutions & Ferguson Enterprise will aid in explaining how the CINX workflow can bring multiple efficiencies to the jobsite.

The aim of this class is to demonstrate how teams within a construction company can use Autodesk Revit Live and what benefit such use can bring to their daily activities. Autodesk Revit is a software package most commonly used by design consultancies and architectural practices across the UK. It allows the creation and coordination of BIM models delivered by multiple members of the design team. Within the CAPEX phase, the model is passed to the contractor for clash detection, quantity take-off, and scheduling purposes, further to populate BIM models with information necessary for the Operational & Maintenance phase. Contractors can also use BIM models to provide the client with various design options, adjusting project cost, duration, and quality. Through the use of Autodesk Revit Live, contractors can provide clients with the ability to experience immersive VR visualisation of their project; however, VR usage is not limited to clients? benefits. Various teams within the construction company can benefit from visualising BIM models in a virtual reality environment.

This class will provide an in-depth discussion of best practices for building a design model for use in both 2D construction documentation and 3D trade coordination. As more projects are designed in 3D from the beginning, architectural, structural, and other trade models can be used by MEP designers when laying out their systems. We will address the how and why of making a model for both documentation creation and 3D coordination in step-by-step descriptions of best practices based on real-world examples where this workflow has been successful. During the construction process, general contractors and trade contractors work together every day in many ways to get the job done. One way these groups commonly work together to plan projects is through the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and 3D coordination. Holder Construction Company, a general contractor, and McKenney's, Inc., a mechanical contractor, have had a working relationship for many years and have built many projects together. In this time we’ve watched BIM become an integral part of the construction process. In this presentation we would like to explore the different ways we approach coordination, the tools we use, how this relationship has changed over the years, and how we expect it to change in the future.
