Fluor has seen a dramatic shift in client expectations, EPCV demands, and subcontractor and supplier sophistication that have changed the BIM landscape in some new and exciting ways. Understand the power of models, data, and management working and evolving together with shared tools across one environment. Through the lens of a vast, 270,000 sf greenfield pharmaceutical manufacturing facility project, CRB shares how their team flowed through multiple phases from design to operations for this advanced digital facility. This session outlines how data and models from previous phases of a Digital Prototyping project can be used to better inform and improve the subsequent phases and the overall optimization of a factory’s production. Supporting the facility, tools like ACC, Revit, and Plant 3D enabled effective project, document, and Field Engineer, with Modeling to support turnover and proactively avoid issues. Autodesk tools continued to shake hands and support the project through factory operations, with tools like FlexSim to justify the business case, develop operating strategies, and detect future production inefficiencies.

This case study explores how we automatically ingested Autodesk Construction Cloud building information modeling (BIM) content (3D model, drawings, docs) using generative AI, knowledge graph technologies, and SAP gateways to automatically generate assets in SAP. This smart handover provides operations with an adapted data framework enabling rapid information contextualization to support any field engineering or maintenance problem-solving activities. In this POV—executed in collaboration with Autodesk, Capgemini, and Cognite—we've explored solutions to the two following business problems: How do we reduce the postdelivery bottleneck of asset creation in SAP from 12 months to less than one month, enabling bidirectional updates between SAP and BIM data sources? How do we reduce downtime and improve reliability by decreasing the response time following an event by 70%–80%? And how do we eliminate the burden of manual data gathering (contextualization) across multiple siloed systems and provide co-pilot support (generative AI) to summarize and correlate data sources?

In-wall coordination is arguably one of the most complex workflows to manage throughout the whole lifecycle of a project build. But it doesn't have to be. There are many factors that go into designing and building the interiors of any project, and this can become even more complex in projects involving health care and life sciences. In the construction industry, it's not uncommon for the walls of a building to be coordinated by traditionally marking up construction documentation, or by field coordinating MEP rough-in. However, this approach can lead to a lot of RFIs and rework—and an overall quality reduction. Enhancing in-wall coordination through a virtual coordination process will not only improve the overall efficiency of your project build, it will also unlock many prefabrication opportunities for the general contractor and trade partners. And it will provide opportunities for multitrade layout through robotics, combat labor shortages, and greatly increase the overall quality output of the project.

Building information modeling (BIM) processes with federated 3D models and centralized common data environments (CDEs) are well-accepted norms in project delivery. Yet, the benefits derived from this digitalization favor the engineering companies over the manufacturing owner. Moreover, the owner's transformation focus is mostly on digitizing highly regulated drug releases and manufacturing performance. Converging these two digital approaches is not often seen as a priority. Yet, it may be a foundational step toward a successful digital transformation for businesses and their people. We’ll make the case for data convergence between digital assets (descriptive digital twins) and manufacturing data and analytics to solve business problems, like accessing the right information and documentation without time loss. We’ll share how the human-centered approach made visible the foundational benefit of BIM by linking objects to information using BIM 360 (collaborate) and data fusion technologies, and which KPIs can demonstrate value.

More and more complex assets are delivered with a digital model that has undeniable importance in the CapEx (capital expenditure) phase. However, a basic question arises for a pharmaceutical leader like GSK: What are the business and manufacturing benefits that can be derived from this smart digital representation of assets, and how? Through "design thinking" tools and an agile approach, we answer this question by focusing on making daily life easier for the shop floor teams. The basic principle focuses on the "spatial contextualization" of information through a 3D or 2D model to support team decision making and team collaboration. The bottom line: The information contextualization enables a prioritization of daily activities and eliminates time previously spent searching for the right information or any asset component. We will share the four phases of this pharma 4.0 digital innovation project: exploration, prototyping, showcasing, and implementation in an interactive storytelling format.

The country’s leading mechanical contractors were some of the earliest adopters of Building Information Modeling (BIM) due to the vast potential for off-site prefabrication. Nearly ten years after its first BIM project, J.C. Cannistraro is sharing some lessons learned from modeling, fabricating, and building some of the most high-profile hospital and biotech projects in the Northeast. Using primarily Autodesk® Navisworks® and Autodesk® Fabrication software, we will explain how we use collaborative thinking, Lean methodology, and BIM tools throughout the preconstruction and construction phases to maximize the efficiency of delivery and installation on every project.

We4bee pursues the goal of establishing a worldwide network of high-tech beehives. This is not only to promote environmental research and education, but also to establish an early warning system for earthquakes and other natural disasters. This project collaborates with the University of Würzburg, Germany. In this class Dr. Claudia Leikam (CEO of we4bee), Professor Hotho and Padraig Davidson from the Chair of Computer Science X (big data and machine learning), Professor Jürgen Tautz (THE bee expert), and the engineer Hans Neumayr will give us an overview about this research project. Hans Neumayr used Fusion 360 software and EAGLE software to create the electronics equipment and some mechanical parts of the beehives. Professor Hotho and Mr. Davidson will provide information on data collection and analysis. Professor Tautz is the well-known bee expert, and Dr. Leikam will give you a view of the scientific aspects of this amazing project.
