This class will explore the design process, the collaboration, and the data flows of a cloud-based instrumentation and electrical design project. The class will also review the advantages of cloud-based technology for this purpose, and we will provide hands-on interaction with a cloud project, so bring your Internet-ready laptop to the class. We will also cover the design and data flows between a synchronized AutoCAD P&ID software project and a cloud instrumentation and electrical project, and we will review the integration with AutoCAD software products required at the client end of the cloud-based project. The class will also have an overall focus of creating, modifying, and generating instrumentation and electrical deliverables such as loop diagrams, junction-box wiring diagrams, hookups, datasheets, and reports.

In this class, we will provide an introduction to the Elecdes Design Suite instrumentation and electrical design tools, with a particular emphasis on their integration with Autodesk Plant Design Suite software. You will learn how to synchronize an instrumentation database with AutoCAD® P&ID software. We will discuss how to add and link components, how to customize templates, and how to use them to produce output drawings and reports. You will learn about plant cable routing and raceway design using a AutoCAD® Plant 3D software model. The class will also cover analysis tools, such as power segregation and tray fill factors.

This session will dive into an effective workflow using AutoCAD Plant 3D software tailored for the plant industry. From project preparation to integrated management through Autodesk Construction Cloud, we'll explore a series of processes, including managing specifications and libraries with Inventor software, and we'll culminate in the creation of final piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings. This approach ensures efficient project management and heightened quality, leading to successful project outcomes and streamlined data integration management.

Using examples drawn directly from projects done in Revit, we cover how to build a model-driven hydraulic system curve (static and friction head loss), set up system coefficient connection settings, produce pipe pressure loss reports, determine the power loads of the system, and validate the Revit model using a Revit piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID). In this class you will learn how AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software work with their databases, what databases exist in AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and what is stored in them. We will cover the tables and views that exist and what these tables and views contain. Along with the existing views, you will see how the databases that you can use with a tool like PlantLink have the potential to speed up your creation of a piping and instrumentation diagram. You will learn how to become faster and create fewer errors. We will create several customer examples with varying degrees of complexity.

DEXPI is the German industry initiative to support and promote the ISO 15926 standard for plant data transfer, and it has reached a major milestone: the definition of standard specification covering a complete piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID). Autodesk, Inc. developed a proof-of-concept application for AutoCAD P&ID software to import/export P&ID data fully implementing this DEXPI specification. In the first part of this class, product and sales development illustrate challenges and opportunities of implementing a generic standard for use with industry data and workflows. In the second part, Bayer AG and Autodesk review the results of exchanging production-grade P&ID drawings solely based on the DEXPI ISO 15926 specification. Can one use the current ISO 15926 specification to exchange high-quality data for P&ID data?

Learn how to improve productivity through the development of key concepts and efficient workflows to successfully execute an intelligent plant project with Plant Design Suite. You will learn how to streamline P&ID design, 3D modeling, orthographic and isometric drawing production, project reports, and construction document generation. This class will show you how to utilize the built-in intelligence capabilities and efficiently extract project data. We will cover how to use and customize the intrinsic intelligence capabilities of tags and annotations to simplify project data management. You will also learn how to integrate data from third-party applications into Plant Design Suite projects. We will demonstrate how Plant Design Suite can coordinate across disciplines in order to develop intelligent project drawings and 3D models, including significant pumping, piping, structural, and instrumentation and control elements (for example, set points and alarms).

Autodesk is constantly looking for ways to improve the user experience. Interoperability between programs is a hallmark of this policy, but sometimes they haven’t quite gotten us there…yet. At Gannett Fleming, we wanted to start using AutoCAD P&ID software, but also wanted to find a way to link the data to AutoCAD Revit MEP software. And that’s what this class is about. We will cover how to review and determine the need for Revit optimization, how to approach optimization from the proper perspective, what you need to know from the program developer to novice user, and how to get it implemented. As an example, we will review how we approached linking data between Revit MEP instrumentation and AutoCAD P&ID drawing data. In the design world, it's not uncommon that key project data is stored in application silos and requires a great deal of manual coordination. Autodesk has taken the first steps for architecture, engineering, and construction projects to make data available to multiple applications at once-by introducing a connected workflow that shares data from schematic diagrams with a Revit project. The Revit P&ID Modeler breaks silos down by letting the user begin with P&ID schematics in AutoCAD Plant 3D software to create intelligent, data-rich diagrams. The schematic data is hosted in the A360 cloud-computing platform cloud and is referenced by Revit project models. The 3D model consisting of elements such as piping, equipment, and accessories is then developed using information defined in the schematic, such as pipe size, pipe type, valve type, and equipment IDs. As the model is developed and the schematic iterated, the user receives feedback to help ensure consistency and that design intent is maintained. This presentation will show an example of validating the results of a Moldflow Plastic Insight warpage simulation. The topics covered will include material characterization, process setup, model accuracy, mold cavity pressure instrumentation, part shrinkage/warpage, and molded part laser scanning. An actual production mold will be used to conduct this validation study. THe mold has been instrumented with cavity pressure sensors. The molded parts have been scanned with a laser and will be compared with the results obtained from the shrinkage/warpage analysis.

In this class you will learn some useful steps to customize content to use in your AutoCAD P&ID software projects. We will lead you through accessing the project setup and understanding what you can edit. We will particularly focus on accessing engineering items. This will involve creating custom equipment, inline assets, instrumentation, and lines. In addition you will learn how to create unique tagging and custom off-page connectors.

AutoCAD Electrical software is more than just an electrical schematic design tool. It also includes symbol libraries and functionality for panel layouts, one-line, hydraulic, pneumatic, and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings. Within AutoCAD Electrical, all types of drawings and the included components are linked and update each other automatically. Attend this class to learn the simple requirements for creating the links between drawings and how you can capitalize on this capability to improve your efficiency and the quality of your design package.

New possibilities for data flow are the result of the Spec Driven P&ID feature introduced in AutoCAD Plant 3D 2017.1 software. Existing spec sheets can be used to facilitate the preparation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). The interface between AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D offers the possibility to connect the P&ID data with the 3D to let the data flow into it, or to run consistency checks between the P&ID and the 3D data. This lecture will show the configuration possibilities and present conceivable workflows, which should lead to an optimization of the project process that also prevents redundant data input.

This talk will deconstruct the results of a radical and uncharacteristic pairing of students and faculty in the fields of interior design, industrial design, and electrical, mechanical, and biomedical engineering. They devised a common language using Revit software and Fusion 360 software for building, exploring, and testing a proposed retrofit for a neonatal intrahospital transport unit for Hospital Escuela in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. In a Revit walk-through, we will simulate design visualizations that optimized the ambulance environment for the newborn, EMT, driver, and family passenger. In Fusion 360 we will demonstrate animations methods for refining anthropometrics and human factors related to ease of operations and methods of movement for accessing the infant, stored medical supplies, incubator instrumentation, and related equipment. This case study will illustrate the inimitable opportunity to break down the boundaries of discipline-specific language, and create a new lens for collaborative dialog and problem-solving.

Automatic drawing creation is a dream of everyone. Imagine selection options into a spreadsheet and having schematics appear before your eyes. Is this possible? Yes! Using the Spreadsheet to PLC tool in AutoCAD Electrical software can get you most of the way there. If a product is intended to improve the quality of lives, or at least do no harm, then its market is probably regulated by dozens to hundreds of government organizations. We see this pattern play out in markets for medical devices, industrial equipment, vehicles, food, consumer products, and anything that might be touched by children. Product data management is a key enabler of efficient development processes, in general. This session will illustrate the challenges that have been addressed at Ascensia, a worldwide market-leading innovator in diabetes care. In the midst of organizational changes, Ascensia has deployed Fusion Lifecycle software to manage its product changes among a dizzying array of regulations and market expectations. Digital twins of process plants are digital replicas of the physical plant that contain information of the plant structure and of the dynamics of how the processes and devices operate. In simulation-based digital twins (SBDTs), first-principles simulation models are used to obtain dynamics of the targeted plant. These applications can be used to derive nonmeasured information of the simulated system, to obtain high-fidelity predictions, or to perform system-wide optimization for improving plant performance. This class will present an extension to the work showcased at Autodesk University 2018. In this class, we’ll present a Forge-based SBDT that uses a Model Broker, a novel solution for automatic simulation model generation. Model Broker utilizes the DEXPI information format available from AutoCAD Plant 3D software to generate the underlying simulation model of the SBDT. In the example implementation used in this class, the generated model is connected to the plant using OPC UA.

In this class, we'll use the case study of designing a lab power supply. This is a common tool in electronics and by working through its design, we'll highlight how the electronics workspace, e-cooling simulation, and mechanical modeling can all be capitalized on to simplify and expedite the production of this product. As we go through the case study, we'll clearly demonstrate the benefits of having all of these tools in one application—namely, faster product development with fewer rework cycles.
