This lab session will focus on some of the newer features of FormIt 360 Pro software, as well as tips and tricks to help with your FormIt 360 Pro workflow. We'll create a building with FormIt 360 Pro software using the Microsoft Windows app. We'll also spend some time understanding the Dynamo Studio workflow within FormIt 360 Pro for Windows software, and how we can use it for quick design iterations.

Take advantage of FormIt Pro in the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection to expand and diversify your services while designing with sustainability in mind. This class will address the value that FormIt software brings to early stage design. We’ll talk about the simplicity of getting started, the direct connection to Revit software with less rework, the unique combination of Dynamo computation and direct manipulation, the ability to maximize location and weather data for sustainable analysis, and more. We will review how FormIt Pro complements other products in the AEC Collection, including Revit, InfraWorks software, Dynamo, and the Insight Energy Analysis tool. We will cover a brief history of FormIt and the product principles that we use to prioritize new work and future directions. Finally, we’ll address the future of the product and where we’ll be investing, and lay out a road map for achieving the future vision.

This class will show workflows that involve FormIt Pro and other products in the AEC Collection. Start your FormIt Pro model by assigning a location and importing a BIM context from InfraWorks software for 3D terrain, buildings, and roadways. Explore design options quickly and efficiently in FormIt Pro by integrating Dynamo graphs while controlling the graph through FormIt Pro software’s simple interface. Quantify and present design options by importing a FormIt Pro massing model into Revit software to quickly document space-planning and feasibility studies. Present real-time visualizations to clients by importing a more detailed FormIt Pro model into Revit for a walk-through, and continue to detail and document the design in Revit.

This is an advanced class for those already familiar with FormIt 360 mobile and web app and the user interface, tools, and basic workflows within the app. This session will focus more on the Windows App to utilize more resources. We will cover the advanced modeling techniques, analysis capabilities, pro features (such as session sharing and material creation), workflows to work with Revit software and Revit software families, and integration of Dynamo modeling scripts into FormIt 360. The class will focus heavily on workflow and getting the most out of a FormIt 360 Pro subscription, so your models are layered with Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related information earlier in your design process. This class will not cover the basics of FormIt 360, so if you’re unfamiliar with how to create model content in FormIt 360, it would be better to take a different course. With FormIt 360, you can create conceptual designs and massing studies right on your iPad, Android tablet, and phone (if you are daring), and on any computer with a web browser, or you can use FormIt 360 for Windows. You will learn tips and tricks to help with this design process, using some similar commands and processes you may already use in Revit software. This session will also look at what the cool and useful FormIt 360 Pro features enable, like real-time team collaboration on a design, whole-building energy analysis, and solar analysis. We will also explore the new Dynamo Studio software workflow within FormIt 360 for Windows. And we will spend some time focusing on taking your project from conceptual design all the way to construction documents with these 2 connected products (Revit software and FormIt 360 mobile and web app) without having to leave the .RVT file format. This lab is designed to give users hands-on experience with FormIt software. We will go step-by-step through creating geometries in FormIt, bringing geometries in from other programs, modeling them together to form a cohesive model utilizing basic and advanced tools, creating and applying materials, adding levels, reporting different object properties, grouping objects, arraying objects, running energy and daylight analyses, starting a sharing session with others, and then transitioning the model to Revit software. You will gain firsthand experience with utilizing this new and powerful toolset that can literally travel anywhere with you.

Architects and engineers must increasingly consider building performance during the design process, and Insight offers them a beautiful, intuitive platform with centralized access to its building-energy and environmental-performance data and advanced-analysis engines. Through robust bidirectional BIM (Building Information Modeling) integration, direct access to leading analysis tools, and guidance and recommendations from industry benchmarks such as Architecture 2030 and ASHRAE 90.1, designers can pursue better performance outcomes throughout the building lifecycle. In this session, we will explore Insight through FormIt Pro and Revit software. We will explore the automatic analytical model-creation features, take advantage of cloud computing to consider millions of potential outcomes at once, and share these insights with the team, all in the name of achieving better outcomes continuously and consistently, from early targeting and feasibility all the way through to operation.

At MT Højgaard, we have developed a dynamic parking structure concept to address the market regardless of design, surroundings, and building site. To make the concept even more competitive we created a design configurator to be used in the early conceptual design and all the way to construction documents and estimation. We will exemplify the use of the configurator based on a client's case.

This presentation/live demo will cover how MT Højgaard has automated and optimized the process of designing a parking garage, going from early concept ideas to final estimation and simulation. We will take you through the workflow and show the possibilities in software that include FormIT pro, Dynamo Studio, Project Fractal, Revit, Dynamo for Revit and iTWO.

Where do you start design? The best tool for a designer is the pencil, and every design begins with a sketch. We have several experienced designers who have embraced the digital pencil for a project-centered workflow. In this class, we will go through a process to convert surfaces to BIM (Building Information Modeling) using FormIt, and bring the results into Revit software. We will explore how to overcome the challenges of surface geometry interoperability using Dynamo. We will explore the Dynamo Script to convert surface geometry with no design intelligence or data to native Revit elements, and use Dynamo Player to help our designers iterate through changes in a model. Lastly, we will use the parameters to flex through numerous iterations on the web with Project Fractal. We will evaluate the pros and cons of automation versus starting a model from scratch in Revit. The process lets us reduce rework, helping improve efficiency in the early stages of design.

With the integration of hand sketching into the digital workflow, we are no longer bound to the finite limitations of our tools. Step through an integrated design process, utilizing laptops and iPads in conjunction with SketchBook Pro software, FormIt software, Fusion 360 software, Revit software, and Dynamo visual programming language extension. In this course, learn how to integrate and capitalize on the power of design sketching in fluid conjunction with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) model. Learn how to utilize SketchBook Pro in the IOS/iPad to create initial sketch concept(s) and import into FormIt software as background for underlay and development of design into a 3D massing model. Develop the massing model utilizing cloud-based FormIt software in conjunction with further overlays and sketching in SketchBook Pro on a pen/tablet interface. Utilize FormIt conceptual energy modeling to orient and refine the initial design concept. Using Autodesk 360 cloud-computing platform and Revit Model software within the massing environment, models and concepts are shared with the Production Team and distributed to the contractor/owner teams.

The aim of this roundtable is to gather individuals who are excited about how the future of making things is shaping the building and construction industry. We will look at how the industry has progressed from an age of 2D flatland data production, to the more advanced age of optimization of 3D digital data, to the present-day era of interoperability and collaboration in a new age of connection. We will focus on how we conceptualize, share information, collaborate, construct, and deliver smart buildings that can be analyzed, rated on performance, monitored, and maintained. The roundtable will look at how the present and future Autodesk, Inc., cloud technology—including Forge Platform—is set to radically change and revolutionize this process by making the transition from conceptual Building Information Modeling (BIM) to constructional BIM as smooth and seamless as possible. We will focus on how to optimally connect the digital data around designing, constructing, and managing buildings with reduced risk and improved outcomes. Autodesk’s Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection provides an extraordinary range of capabilities and tools that, when integrated, create incredible insights and make easy work of complex design and project problems. This class will explore the potential and power of digital construction and project management with the AEC Collection. In this class, we will dive into the complex installation of several large tanks in a highly confined facility, utilizing drone technology and reality capture with different software integrations. Some of the software this class will explore is AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Vehicle Tracking, ReCap software, ReCap Photo software, Navisworks software, InfraWorks software, and more. With the integration of all these programs, the project was able to succeed as planned, utilizing found vehicle and building clearances as well as logistical confirmation of the project's ability to succeed. This class will demonstrate the effectiveness of the AEC Collection as well as the virtual design and construction (VDC) methodology.
