In this hands-on lab, we take an in-depth look at the 10 commandments to follow when creating custom equipment and parts with AutoCAD Plant 3D software. We examine multiple scenarios for building equipment and parts and their workflows, which if followed, will enable attendees to glide through the process of building them. In today's highly competitive market, the ability to work dynamically and efficiently is a requirement. This class enables attendees to see ways of accomplishing this while putting more tools in their toolbox.

We’ll be sharing our experience in building equipment monitoring and control and using IoT for smart buildings. We’ll demonstrate what is required to build a solution for monitoring and control of IoT and building equipment through Forge Viewer.?We’ll be using the “iviva Lucy” iPaaS service to demonstrate the concepts and walk the audience through a code level example. The audience will learn the basic requirements of two-way communication with IoT and building equipment, how to turn Forge Viewer into an operational portal, and how to enhance operational experience by integrating third-party services such as Microsoft Power BI into Forge Viewer.

This class is based on FATHOM’s experience using Fusion 360 software to design a complex, functional, 3D-printable piece of lab equipment—a cloud-connected microbiological culture incubator called Crucible that’s capable of simulating extremophile environments. After a brief introduction to the project and its challenging requirements, we’ll dive into structuring designs that have powerful timelines, yet are conducive to successive design revisions by a large distributed engineering team. We will also explore how the final look of the product relates to the constraints of 3D printing and the importance of self-supporting geometry. Finally, we’ll discuss why and how we created a slicer for fused deposition modeling (FDM) printers inside of Fusion 360 software. This session features Fusion 360.

This class will cover the use of Inventor software tools for the simplification of both native and non-native vendor equipment models in order to minimize file sizes in large process-facility Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. We will also discuss the pros and cons of using the BIM Exchange app inside Inventor software to export models for use in AutoCAD Plant 3D software.

Go beyond the standard “globular” shapes for equipment in AutoCAD Plant 3D software and harness the alternative options to convey your piping design more accurately. We will work on understanding the ins and outs involved when using standard equipment, but also get in depth with options of creating more-complex 3D solids or bringing in designs from outside sources. Finally, for equipment configurations that constantly change during project design, use the power of AutoCAD software’s external references (xref) to keep your designs up to date with the latest changes to the equipment.

The McCarthy team is capitalizing on BIM 360 Field software to track quality and progress on various building elements. As a result, they had several custom reporting requirements to regularly report out on. A custom building-equipment tracking report called the "Quality Log" involves the use of the equipment module, the checklist modules, and the issues module in BIM 360 Field software. The custom report enables project teams to see the status of any equipment item: all the properties associated with it, the status of any associated checklists, and the number of open and closed issues. We will cover how to use the equipment module in some creative ways to help us manage the construction progress. With Autodesk APIs, we are able to get a succinct report that can give a quick overview of the project’s health. This session features BIM 360 Field. AIA Approved

Autodesk Informed Design and Data Exchange are the platform technologies we use to connect plant design and construction, with the help of Autodesk Construction Cloud. It's never been so easy to share data and its configurations. Data Exchange makes it very easy to collaborate and share information in integrated factory modeling (IFM) within Autodesk software systems, but also with applications such as Tekla or SolidWorks. Autodesk Construction Cloud helps us store all information centrally and make it available to everyone involved in the project. Informed Design offers the possibility to provide configurations from Inventor software for various types of building equipment in Revit software as configurable families. This ensures that only predefined variants are installed and prevents cost-intensive special solutions. Last year, we talked about the possibilities of the beta versions. Now we would like to take a closer look at the solutions and share experiences from customer projects with you. It's going to be good!

The collection and management of building data, including the requirements for rooms, equipment, and other needs, as it evolves from early design through construction documentation and as a basis for facility management, can be enhanced through advanced techniques in Revit-based software. This includes linking to an external data source, automating the creation of areas and rooms, creating room data sheets, and other graphic and non-graphic processes that complement BIM. This class covers basic database theory, the structure of objects and their relation to data management, and Revit techniques for implementing this general theory in actual projects. We also discuss third-party software and customizations, and how they are used to further advance these processes. The class goes beyond learning Revit commands and looks at the underlying information requirements of emerging integration in project delivery.

When planning a factory, many trades, project participants, and disciplines are involved. This presentation will show you an end-to-end digital process called the integrated factory model (IFM). The coordination of all project-relevant data is the basis of an end-to-end digital process and is largely responsible for the success of a project. A simple 3D construction space model gives each project participant their workspace. There, for example, the layout planner carries out process simulation and line planning with the Factory Design Utilities software. Due to the adjacent construction spaces, collisions with other layouts or the building equipment can be detected and eliminated at a very early stage. All data is continuously merged, checked, and adjusted in an overall coordination model in BIM 360 software.

Construction teams need an experience that lets an asset, such as equipment, and its data flow seamlessly from design to handover and operations. This class will explore how to use BIM 360 software as a means for tracking key milestones in the asset lifespan—from design and fabrication, to delivery, installation, commissioning, and, ultimately, handover. This class will also explore workflows around building commissioning and creating repositories for asset-related documentation, including product information such as cut sheets and warranty documents—as well as links to checklists, RFIs, submittals, and other workflows related to the asset. See how to use the BIM 360 platform to provide integrations with various workflows throughout an asset's life.

What are the possibilities when we talk about IoT (Internet of Things) and BIM (Building Information Modeling)? Well, when we integrate through Forge intelligent models and Microsoft Azure IoT Hub, we can have a world of possibilities and insight with machine learning. In this lecture, you will see how data collected with BIM 360 software to make an inventory were connected with equipment in the building to monitor what was going on and make predictive analysis, in order to cut building maintenance costs. You’ll see how BIM 360 Ops software can be used to open and close maintenance tickets.

Electrical analysis tools in Revit software allow engineers and designers to predict, calculate, and balance electrical loads in early design stages. By estimating anticipated electrical loads before the development of an architectural model, it's possible to more accurately rightsize electrical systems earlier in designs and create more-sustainable buildings. These powerful tools are still new and relatively unknown, so many designers and engineers are unaware of the early-stage design capabilities available. Learn how to use electrical analysis tools, including defining custom area-based load types, creating and modifying area-based loads and equipment loads, and calculating electrical loads in buildings in the earliest stages of design.
