Like most firms, Hazen is at times, unable to dictate which CM platform is used on every project. However, for the last several years we have an internal preferred solution that is not ACC Build. In late 2022 we began pilot testing Autodesk Build with the goal of the pilot being to determine whether we should begin integrating ACC Build going forward. If yes, should we use Autodesk Build on certain projects alongside our other platform, or should it replace that platform entirely? What we hope to gain from this pilot is identifying the feature and workflow differences between the two platforms, and whether Autodesk Build can provide an advantage in transferring our asset-ready intelligent models through construction and as-built into a digital twin / facility management product like Autodesk Tandem. This pilot project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, but we wanted to share our experiences so far and provide some insight into our findings.

The foundation of interdisciplinary architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) practices begins with the education of the next generation of AEC practitioners. In this class, we will discuss how students engaged in an iterative design and learning process build knowledge and communication skills toward an integrated design-build studio. This integrated design-build studio uses a series of assignments housed in dedicated design labs where students solve realistic design problems. Faculty-implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and established ecological accounting methods increase interaction and innovation in the interdisciplinary design-build studio.

The Forge platform consists of cloud-based developer tools from Autodesk. We will introduce Forge APIs by walking through some sample code demonstrations to help you gain access to your BIM (Building Information Modeling) data. Forge APIs also provide you with a way to manipulate and update more information in intelligent models in the cloud. Effective Cost Management and real time insights into the budget of the project can make or break a project. In this hands-on workshop, we will look at the Cost Management tool within Autodesk Build and how to maximize workflows such as telling the story of a field issue that turns into a change orders, collaborating on pay apps, and accurately forecasting to minimize risk on a project and lead to a more successful project.

Clayco has been using BIM 360 Field software for more than 10 years, and in the last few years, the firm has migrated more and more of its projects to the BIM 360 Build platform. Today, 95% of Clayco’s projects are actively using this new platform to exchange design drawings/models and to conduct quality and safety inspections. This class will discuss in detail how Clayco is implementing BIM 360 Build in terms of the current successes, ongoing challenges, and lessons learned over the course of the firm’s adoption. A key part of Clayco’s implementation has been working closely with Autodesk and providing them with feedback on specific BIM 360 Build features, functionality, and end-user workflows and requests. This class will also focus on how Clayco is tracking the effectiveness of its implementation through end-user feedback and quantitative/qualitative metrics using Microsoft Power BI. In this case study, we’ll present the challenges involved in designing a set of software solutions to address F1 track construction process and asset management. This class will explore all available technologies such as Civil 3D software, Autodesk Build software, and Autodesk Forge software, but we’ll especially examine how they demanded integration to address specific race-track construction aspects. We’ll present customization scenarios and explore specific business. We’ll also present the positive impact we achieved by using Autodesk Build, Civil 3D, and customization through Autodesk Forge. We’ll analyze and present tight deadlines and dynamic changes to the process and to the pace of development from a stakeholder's perspective.

This hands-on lab aims to provide an introduction to creating your own Revit add-ins using C#. This lab will not be an overly complex look at add-in creation from a computer programmer’s point if view. Instead, it will provide an introduction to Visual Studio and C# from a Revit user’s perspective. We’ll learn how to set up Visual Studio templates to get started quickly, how to observe the Revit database to find out what we can add, and how to build simple functionality to make Revit do what we want. In addition to these, you’ll gain insight into a ton of valuable resources to use as you continue your journey into the Revit API.
