In this hands-on lab, we will explore the new interoperability between Advance Steel 2017 software and Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2017 software. We will begin by exploring a simple structural model in Advance Steel software. We will push that model into Robot Structural Analysis Professional software and perform a basic analysis and code group-based design. Once the design is correct, we will update the Advance Steel model geometry from Robot Structural Analysis Professional and continue the steel-detailing process. Dynamo software may be the name of a famous magician, but there's a magician of a different kind with the same name called the Dynamo Extension for Advance Steel. In this hands-on lab, you will learn how to make a basic portal frame structure by modeling first in Dynamo a standalone programming environment where you the designer will create it programmatically and then preview it in real time in Advance Steel software. During this lab, we'll introduce you to the basic commands and functionality of the Dynamo Extension, including schemes to create sections, assign materials, and so on. We'll demonstrate how the model is linked and updated directly into Advance Steel by the extension. This will be a review of an initial Advance Steel software workflow implementation plan, and an analysis of what worked well and what needed to be changed. We will present descriptions of training plans, integration of Advance Steel software into actual production orders, and ways to balance project deadlines with the learning of new software on major projects. We will share best practices for training new employees with no previous 3D AutoCAD software experience. And we will discuss an update on integration of Advance Steel software with production equipment using both NC and XML output, as well as future workflow integration and next steps.

In this hands-on, session we'll go step by step through the specific nodes available in Dynamo to drive a steel structure in Advance Steel. It's about the basics of creating beams and plates. We'll then work with specific nodes to set up the beam type and size, material, and user attributes. We'll assign some connections in Advance Steel to understand how modifications to the Dynamo script affect the model. Furthermore, we'll walk through the benefits of using Microsoft Excel Sheets to drive a Dynamo script for similar projects like transmission towers.

In this class, we will explore an extended workflow that leads to enhanced fabrication details with Advance Steel software.
