Last year, our team undertook the task of capturing and generating the existing condition of a building in downtown Toronto, Canada. This project was a commercial building that included a parkade, mechanical spaces, office areas, and retail space. It required over 1,100 scans, or 7 trillion points of data, to capture all spaces needed for redesign and as-built modeling. This Revit project required LOD 200 modeling process for architecture, structure, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection. Using Revit software, ReCap software, and Collaboration for Revit cloud service we were able to move from raw scan data to a Revit model efficiently. Other challenges were management of large data sets and collaboration between team members in different geographical locations. We'll show you how we planned and executed this project, and let you know what lessons we learned.

This class shows you how to use InfraWorks software to create highly realistic and accurate context models for civil infrastructure projects that support a more efficient, productive, and collaborative design workflow. The class shows how to aggregate a variety of data sources in InfraWorks such as geospatial information, LiDAR data using ReCap software, design data from AutoCAD® Civil 3D® software, and 3D models from Revit® and 3ds Max® software. Use ReCap to preprocess LiDAR data for other Autodesk applications. The class shows several real-world infrastructure projects where InfraWorks was used to support design and communication.

Hunt/AECOM has had success using Navisworks software as a 3D and 4D collaboration tool. The net result has always been good, however, the process of using Navisworks software has resulted in teams not having the latest information. With BIM 360 Glue software, we can have a live link or real-time data connecting all of the trade data in one cloud model. Using the Blue Ciel project and others, this presentation will demonstrate how to coordinate construction Building Information Modeling (BIM) and maintain construction schedules. During this class the participants will learn about the Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes designed and implemented by Egis Group for highways and road design. The class will focus on the standardization of design and collaboration in infrastructure projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Through relevant projects examples (highways, airports), the participants will discover how to deploy a collaborative standardization on the AutoCAD Civil 3D software platform. The participants will also learn how to manage standardization for multidisciplinary applications such as roads, bridges, airports, and so on. In addition they will learn how to manage AutoCAD Civil 3D software to integrate different requirements such as a company’s own production rules, local or international design standards, and customer requirements—such as personalized outputs. This session features AutoCAD Civil 3D.

This class will focus on the BIM for Aqualculture Project delivered in Nordic by Kruger Kaldnes, part of Veolia Water Technologies, comprising world-class technical know-how and technologies for water purification. The BIM manager will speak about the process based on Autodesk technologies starting with reality capture with ReCap, the process definition with AutoCAD Plant 3D, design engineering with Revit, clash detection with Navisworks Manage, and all the project data managed by BIM 360 Platform for collaboration with external subcontractors who permit to reduce engineering time and improve quality of the deliverables.

This class will show how to run a project during preconstruction using estimating models and design team models. Also, it will show how to work with trade contractors for the budgeting and bidding phases. By utilizing models and plans, we’ll show how to come up with value engineering and constructability issues. This class will give a good understanding for the people who would like to make a transition from BIM coordinator or manager to the preconstruction and estimating route.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is more than 23 years old and currently going through major redevelopment, including adding 33 new gates to all of its concourses and renovating the main terminal. Having already constructed the Westin Hotel and Convention Center with the aid of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and cloud collaboration, DEN has gone full-blown with implementing BIM 360 Docs software for the Main Terminal Renovation, a.k.a. The Great Hall project. It was the logical choice and platform. The intelligent models needed to be centralized and collaborate with several design teams across different offices throughout the United States and South America. We'll present our approaches, challenges (there were undoubtedly plenty), and solutions from project kickoff through construction. BIM 360 Docs software became the single source of truth for a large and complex project. Autodesk products used in the project include BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Glue software, BIM 360 Field software, Revit 2018 software, and Navisworks Manage 2018 software.

Architects, designers, engineers, and contractors speak regularly of the importance of collaboration-but do we really know what collaboration is and which software we can use to collaborate? In the world of distributed workplaces and distributed software programs, and with personnel spread across the country and sometimes further, how can you keep the process intact? How can you keep people regularly accountable and informed when work is being performed around the clock on multiple platforms and in multiple languages? File sharing options such as BIM 360 software and Collaboration for Revit cloud service are exceedingly valuable tools, but it's more critical to identify who is doing what, and who shares with you-and when. The days of the "file-sharing funnel" are behind us. This class will cover design and management evolution, parametric exploration of multiple scenarios, and optimal engineering solutions to fabricate and construct a very complicated facility in a year's time-all with a radio frequency interference (RFI) count of less than 250!

Matthias Bertling (e.GO Mobile AG) and Matthias Dannapfel (WZL of RWTH Aachen University) will provide an overview and introduction to integrated factory modeling (IFM). How can interdisciplinary teams of architects, designers, technical planners, and project managers collaborate? The introduction of an integrated planning approach revolutionizes the planning process in factory planning. This is made possible by the use of different software tools and workflows. From plan, to design, to build, to validate, to operation, the integrated factory model provides unique value to all project participants through different planning phases. Factory planning has never been so effective, transparent, coordinated, and fast. The example of the young, German, automotive startup e.GO Mobile AG shows how IFM is used as a strategic success factor for the planning and realization of new factories in the automotive industry.

Navisworks project review software has a set of powerful coordination tools. What it lacks is a strong set of collaboration tools, which are essential in the multidisciplinary coordination process. Enter the Cloud Solutions. Combining what is good about both worlds creates effortless coordination that includes no more file shuffling and provides powerful version control and access control. This class will cover key workflows that assist in the use of the Cloud Solutions and automation of the Clash Detective process, as well as enable an increase in communication and collaboration.

This presentation follows the 76 11th Avenue Towers project from concept through construction, tracking how designers adapted design and delivery tools over time to meet the particular demands of each project phase and each team's workflow culture. Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Woods Bagot-the project's design architect and architect of record, respectively-entered into a collaborative design-assist process for the towers' facades that included owners, contractors, engineers, and fabricators. This close collaboration on the design and delivery of a geometrically complex signature building required significant attention to communication and collaboration processes, and was centered around an information-rich model that stakeholders could access as needed. Ultimately, this case study suggests the need for broader industry changes beyond technical workflow issues-such as improved integrated contracts and more expansive Building Information Modeling (BIM) execution plans.

This session will present how The Ohio State University has successfully developed a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project delivery standard that enables the model to serve as a single source of truth for relevant spatial and asset information throughout the building lifecycle. This delivery standard has truly "begun with the end in mind" by taking advantage of the knowledge gained from the BIM for Existing Buildings portion of the Buckeye BIM Initiative. We'll highlight how the Revit portion of this deliverable will work in collaboration with COBie structured data to facilitate its utilization in effective data turnover. We'll highlight the need to implement technology solutions and workflows to enable the use of the model across the University and to support interoperability with other data systems. Last, we'll cover lessons learned, continuing challenges, and how the standard has evolved over the last 2.5 years of existence.

With the "Streamline exchange of data between Civil 3D, Revit and InfraWorks" class we will explore a mature workflows & understanding on how model needs to share from Civil 3D to Revit and from Revit to InfraWorks. This will block any mistakes from starting of the project, increase productivity & save the time from reworking at any project stage or whenever data needs to share with other applications.

This hands-on lab will allow users to get some hands-on time with generative design. We will cover how to define a generative design study from scratch, apply loads, constraints, and manufacturing methods. Once completed, we will explore the results and export an outcome and then use the innovate tools with Fusion 360 to adjust the design to suit the manufacturing method we would like to use. We will cover 2 example through the workshop, one focused around manufacturing products and the other around building products.

Learn about the benefits that virtualization provides for an architecture and engineering design firm, while taking a journey through the advancements in virtualization technology it took to finally meet our design software’s graphics-intensive needs. Our primary design tool is Revit software, in which team members work together on single files. We'll share our experiences regarding how virtualization empowers a large company, with more than 15 offices and 1,000 people worldwide, to collaborate and work as a single firm. We'll show some cost comparisons with virtualization, along with their management benefits and requirements. We'll also look at the methods we used to set and test metrics specific to our requirements, and follow the results of those metrics through the changes in graphics virtualization technology.

This will be an introduction to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018 software and InfraWorks 2018 software working with BIM 360 software to provide work sharing and design collaboration to the infrastructure design and construction. The class will show how to use Autodesk Drive service and BIM 360 to bring data shortcuts to a whole new level. We'll also explore our models from AutoCAD Civil 3D and InfraWorks in BIM 360 for review and markup.

How can 120 diverse stakeholders shape the design of a complex infrastructure project and gain community consent and agency approval—all in record time? Using InfraWorks 360 software as a collaboration tool, the owners, engineers, environmentalists, historians, regulators, news agencies, and local townspeople all worked together to affect design changes in a democratized and efficient working relationship. Using InfraWorks 360 software, we overcame the obstacles that typically plague rail projects, such as connecting villages and towns, crossing bridges and tunnels, using and repurposing existing corridors, and establishing new alignments. This was done using the ability to rapidly view, navigate, query, and create design alternatives in a real-world context. The project model provided a single source of truth for both technical and nontechnical review, assessment, and “what if” proposals. See the amazing results of this stakeholder-designed and stakeholder-approved project through their eyes. This session features InfraWorks 360, 3ds Max, and AutoCAD Civil 3D. AIA Approved

The international ISO 19650 series of standards define BIM with respect to exchange information requirements (EIR) and then the process of delivering against these requirements in a coordinated and collaborative way. This presentation will look at many aspects of this process starting with how to develop a robust EIR and then moving through the project timeline to ensure that information is developed accordingly through design, construction and then handover. Stephen will provide some live technology demonstrations with respect to developing a multi-discipline responsibility matrix, coordinating information in models and specifications and then transferring the key information into common data environments. Practical examples will be given within construction technology tools such as Autodesk Revit, NBS Chorus and Autodesk BIM 360. With each example, there will be references back to the original information requirements and how to deliver the data that meets the level of information need (LOIN). Alistair will put these workflows into context with project examples from award-winning projects delivered by the multidisciplinary design team at BDP.
