Parametric Modeling of Vaults for Notre Dame in Revit
In this class, you’ll create an adaptive parametric Revit family that represents one of the types of crossed vaults used in the ground-floor ceiling of the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, France. This class is a result of Alfredo Medina’s collaboration in Andrew Milburn’s initiative about creating a Revit model of Notre-Dame, a work motivated by the love of using Revit software as a "BIM pencil" (Mr. Milburn’s words) to study historical buildings. Mr. Milburn started the model in April 2019, soon after the fire. Using BIM 360 Design software and a BIM 360 Document Management hub, several enthusiasts from different continents have collaborated in this project. One of the tasks that Alfredo Medina volunteered to do is the group of vaults in semicircular array at the end of the nave. This class is a step-by-step, hands-on lab to show you how to make one of these types of vaults and insert it multiple times in different orientations in the layout of ceiling vaults.

Sharing Data in Cloud-Based Platforms: Avoiding Risks, Liability & Disputes
Whilst cloud-based platforms like BIM360 powerfully connect project teams and data, this very ability to connect in real time – with decisions and actions made based on the connected information – brings a host of potential unintended and avoidable misunderstandings, increased liability and risks. E.g. who is responsible for errors/corruption in data accessed by external parties? Is the party hosting the platform responsible for misuse of the platform and data in it? What obligations do parties accessing the BIM360 or other platform have to the hosting party? This is an expensive ticking time-bomb of liability and disputes waiting to happen. However, there are presently no resources or practical advices on how to mitigate/avoid such issues or how to explain them to your lawyers so they can help you avoid the risks. In this class, you will be given practical, useful advice and tips on how to reduce risk and clarify parties’ rights and obligations via clear process, guidance and terms.

Harnessing Next-Generation Cloud Collaboration: BIM 360 Design
In the spring of 2018, Autodesk introduced BIM 360 Design software, based on the Forge platform, and BIM 360 Document Management. While users still have access to the legacy BIM 360 Team technology, BIM 360 Design provides enhanced collaboration workflows, greater control over file permissions, and much tighter integration with BIM 360 Docs software for use in "downstream" collaboration workflows during a project’s postdesign phases. This class will focus on the enhanced workflows possible with Design Collaboration and Revit cloud collaboration, and will cover project setup, teams and permissions, and the use of packages to effectively control when others have access to your data and when data from other teams is updated in your model. We will also look at common troubleshooting techniques and BIM 360 site setup.

BIM 360 as One Platform for Collaboration Management on Complex Health Projects
For this project, we used BIM 360 Docs software as a collaborative platform that centralizes models, documents, and meta data. This class’s main goal is to show how Brunet Saunier Architecture implemented and used BIM 360 Docs workflows on a large hospital project in Paris, France. The first part will cover design and construction phases for one of the Lariboisière hospital buildings (6,000 square meters). We’ll describe how the firm implemented and used BIM 360 collaborative processes to involve the hospital owner, as well as three construction companies (general contractor, plumbing, and HVAC). In the second part, we’ll cover the design of the hospital’s main building (55,000 square meters) and what is planned for the construction phase in the future. The owner conducted a procedure that awarded six contracts (disciplines); each company was asked to provide full intelligent models (geometry and data). We are planning on using BIM 360 to ensure the data is unique and consistent, and that it matches the contracts.

IPD: A Lean and BIM Approach with BIM 360
One of our industry’s greatest challenges is sharing timely information between preconstruction and construction teams. Translating the current communication deficiencies into an IPD project makes the challenge even greater. Dealing with different teams outside your company, their unique workflows, and varied project management tools can be overwhelming. It requires the adoption of a common data environment and established workflows between the owner and the rest of the IPD partners. Engaging with a lean BIM (Building Information Modeling) mindset, attendees will identify the key elements to make the most out of workflows for BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Design, and BIM 360 Build software. We will go through the project’s framework and bridge the gap of siloed data project management with BIM 360 software. We’ve streamlined the stakeholders’ communication by reducing up to 35% of response and approval times regarding issues, RFIs, submittals, and field checklists.
