Data Exchange is a powerful neutral format you can use to store a subset of your design models in the cloud. Teams can easily use Data Exchange to share design data between Revit software, Rhino, Inventor software, Civil 3D software, and other authoring software through Autodesk Docs using connectors. This class will explore the capabilities of Dynamo and Grasshopper connectors to build interoperable workflows between applications and systems to share and receive graphical and metadata. You'll learn the step-by-step process of setting up connectors in Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit, and Rhino. Using the connectors, users will be able to easily create, update, and manage data exchanges between authoring software to share the model geometry and property data. You can use Dynamo and Grasshopper Connector nodes to retrieve available data exchanges, receive and send data exchanges, and convert them to geometries and parameters via the DxData object.

As a 3D generalist working in architecture, engineering, construction, or manufacturing, it's essential to understand Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD). USD is quickly becoming the industry standard for data exchange between different software applications. USD offers a powerful and efficient way to manage large and complex 3D scenes, allowing for better collaboration between different departments, and reducing the risk of errors during the production pipeline. In addition, USD enables the creation of real-time workflows using original source data, allowing for faster iteration and feedback. With the rise of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), distributed computing, and cloud data aggregation, USD's importance will only increase. A strong understanding of USD will empower 3D generalists to work more efficiently and effectively with multiple data sources between different teams.

In this session, learn how to go from developing conceptual models in Autodesk's early stage planning and design tool—Autodesk Forma—to highly detailed manufacturing design models in Revit and Inventor software. This talk will outline how Autodesk's Manufacturing Informed Design team has collaborated with the KOPE platform to create an end-to-end system that enables the design and specification of prefabricated products and systems through the industry's largest off-site market and database. This talk will demonstrate how manufacturing-led content can truly influence and validate design at an early stage by enabling a productized supply chain.

Daiwa House has achieved early adoption of building information modeling (BIM) in the design phase, adopted Autodesk Docs as its standard common data environment (CDE), obtained ISO 19650 certification, and is currently pursuing a CDP strategy. Toward further growth and innovation beyond BIM, we've launched the "Data-Centric Project" with Autodesk this year, focusing on a data strategy. We've defined a DDP (DfMA data platform), prepared a KoP (kit of parts) using DfMA methodology, and verified its effectiveness in real projects to address social issues such as construction waste and decrease of skilled workers. As data strategy has become essential, along with the verification of the effectiveness of the DfMA methodology in actual projects, we'll present the overall concept of the data-centered project, and discuss how DfMA and data strategy are related to each other and to the realization of the digital construction industry.

It is common to design factory layouts using AutoCAD software and Inventor software to ensure spatial accuracy and safety compliance. However, it is not the norm to be as diligent with process design. Often plant designers will rely on equipment vendor rates and will assume equipment and resources will integrate and run according to the design on paper. But what happens when the reality of process variation and equipment and labor interdependencies come into play? It’s very difficult to take all these factors into account using only CAD drawings and layouts. The solution is to use simulation to optimize the factory workflow, then create a direct link from the simulation to the factory layout, providing a digital twin of the factory. We will demonstrate the value and basics of how using ProModel and Process Simulator Autodesk Editions, synced with AutoCAD and Inventor, can help optimize your digital twin first so that you’re not playing trial and error with your real equipment, inventory, and labor.

Often times, we hear from users that they don't really understand how to get started with Generative Design in Fusion 360. Questions like these regularly come up: What types of problems is it good for? What knowledge do I need to get started? How do I get access? How much will it cost? We would like to take this opportunity to help set up a strong foundation for how best to get started with Generative Design in Fusion 360. We will provide answers to these questions and many more during this session. You should expect to leave this session with a clear understanding of how to put Generative Design into action on your first project.

Last year we did a class (“How to Use Fusion 360 and Inventor for Effective Designs”) where we linked Fusion 360 files with Inventor using Desktop Connector. The most requested addition to that was to link those files into Vault software, so this year we’ll go through some of the different configurations for how we can load and manage these Fusion 360 files in Vault. Some of the things we will look at include creating the connection and adding the files, as well as managing the files; and we’ll also discuss version and revisions of the files in Vault.

There is an increasing desire to build custom designs that can more easily convert from traditional mechanical and industrial CAD tools into BIM (Building Information Modeling)-ready content that can be utilized inside of Revit software. Inventor software has the capability to generate Revit-ready content, but often this requires specialized knowledge of the process. What if things didn’t have to be this way? What if any CAD designer could quickly assemble components with BIM-enabled features, easily compile multiple components into one compiled model, and populate BIM connectors for final insertion into Revit with a click of a button? Doesn’t that sound amazing? The workflow in this class will utilize everyday Inventor techniques to set the stage for powerful iLogic capabilities to enable virtually any designer to configure Inventor models into Revit-ready content.

The industry is moving from mass production to customized solutions, creating a tremendous increase in the demand for custom BIM (Building Information Modeling) software solutions. However, custom solutions are expensive to develop. With Forge, you can build custom BIM configurators with minimum investment and time. We created a custom simulation app for HVAC professionals to produce a sustainable design. The app simulates the performance of design spaces and HVAC systems configuration in the cloud. The class will demonstrate how to use Forge to create a new user-defined office build space. We will elaborate on how the assembly of complex 3D HVAC system configurations can be created. You will see how Revit design automation APIs can construct an accurate intelligent model on the server. Attendees will learn these techniques, as well as how to create vast varieties of online BIM system configurators such as kitchen design, furniture design, infrastructure design, and others.
