A cross-industry technology fusion! We used Autodesk Generative Design software to create an adaptive connector bracket for robot-operated 3D scans of ancient structures. ReCap software and Dynamo helped us study traditional construction methods and enrich our restoration efforts. This report covers our process in Autodesk Fusion 360 software, including entering design parameters and extracting constraints from the historical site. It explains how we turned the bracket's requirements into criteria for rapid iteration and selection, quickly finding the best solution. It also explains how ReCap processed robot-collected point cloud data to investigate architectural principles and features of ancient buildings in Southern China. Finally, it describes how Dynamo converted these insights into automated building information modeling (BIM) scripting, bridging historical knowledge with modern technology for efficient restoration practices.

Pierlite (business of Signify, formerly Philips Lighting) had a vision to supply project quantities of bespoke lighting products, designed by customers in real time and manufactured within a week. To deliver this unique value proposition to the market, Pierlite partnered with Tentech to design a new business model. This collaboration involved the implementation of Minute Configurator, a configuration interface and engine used to integrate product data, purchasing, planning, and production. Minute Configurator used parameterized models and a generation engine to let users customize lighting solutions, displaying a live 3D render and providing instant technical data. Production was streamlined with automated ordering and optimization of manufacturing processes, delivering a reduction in human resource. Configuration can revolutionize a broad range of product development processes, delivering speed, customization, and a new user experience.

Considering the imminent climate crisis, we need to reduce our emissions drastically. However, at the same time, the mobility sector is steadily growing. One solution can be the Hyperloop, promising shorter travel times than air passenger travel with fewer emissions. mu-zero HYPERLOOP is a team of 50+ passionate students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with a mission to contribute to a sustainable future of transportation. Each year, we design and build a Hyperloop Pod using Autodesk Fusion software, and ultimately compete very successfully against other teams at the European Hyperloop Week (EHW). This session will explore how we use Fusion to design and manage a complex project with 25,000+ components and collaborate with 50+ team members. In this session, we'll introduce GraphQL and explore how it is being used to deliver the promise of "granular" data. As you have heard before, Autodesk is investing heavily in cloud data with Autodesk Fusion (manufacturing), Autodesk Forma [architecture, engineering, and construction; building information modeling (BIM)], and Autodesk Flow (media and entertainment) industry groups. At the center is also the Data Exchange API that allows data to be shared in a specific and durable way. From authoring to access, this class will explain the details about each software system, and how to use the GraphQL API to access the data. We'll also cover the fact that data can easily be accessed across each of the information models, and via Data Exchange.

In this session, we’ll discuss how design for additive manufacture (DFAM) can influence the performance of additively manufactured parts. This session will focus primarily on laser powder-bed fusion, but concepts can be transferable to other additive techniques. We’ll explore lattices, hollow geometries, and thin walls as common features in lightweight designs, including the challenges that these can pose in design, post processing, and actual performance. Autodesk Research is currently undertaking research to characterize how as-built features perform (mechanically) compared to idealized conditions—generic bulk-material values found in literature. This will enable better representation of these features at the design stage to facilitate more accurate simulation and optimization. Attendees will leave more familiar with DFAM, considerations during the design process, and the impacts these have on overall part performance.

Human bone is a unique material that grows based on the mechanical loading applied to it. This can cause problems for astronauts, as the loading through their bones is reduced and conditions such as osteoporosis can set in. Surgical implants, which are often used to stabilize bone fragments following a fracture, can inadvertently create similar problems, by reducing the force transferred through the bone itself. This can permanently reduce bone mass and increase the risk of future fracture. This class will discuss the ongoing research into this problem, and will demonstrate how researchers are using generative design in Fusion 360 software to explore new designs for these implants that better aid the natural bone-recovery process.
