In this cross-industry collaboration between Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) and the Autodesk Technology Centre in Birmingham, England, we're solving the challenges NWG has maintaining water infrastructure. By employing advanced manufacturing techniques—such as laser scanning, reverse engineering, and hybrid manufacturing—NWG can work with its supply chain to repair broken parts and extend the operating lives of the assets they maintain. NWG is responsible for many assets that were manufactured decades ago, and the original design data is no longer available, causing excessively long lead times for replacement parts. A cross-industry technology fusion! We used Autodesk Generative Design software to create an adaptive connector bracket for robot-operated 3D scans of ancient structures. ReCap software and Dynamo helped us study traditional construction methods and enrich our restoration efforts. This report covers our process in Autodesk Fusion 360 software, including entering design parameters and extracting constraints from the historical site. It explains how we turned the bracket's requirements into criteria for rapid iteration and selection, quickly finding the best solution. It also explains how ReCap processed robot-collected point cloud data to investigate architectural principles and features of ancient buildings in Southern China. Finally, it describes how Dynamo converted these insights into automated building information modeling (BIM) scripting, bridging historical knowledge with modern technology for efficient restoration practices.

The Autodesk 2024 Design and Make report showcases that 77% of companies report that upskilling employees is important. They also report they lack resources needed to design training programs. The Design and Make report also reflects that between 2021 and 2023 there's been a 143% increase in Autodesk's Media and Entertainment certification adoption, a 71% increase in AECO certification adoption, and a 100% increase in Autodesk's Design and Make certification adoption. Applied learning is at the core of defining every graduate's progression to becoming a professional engineer. For mechanical engineering students at University College London (UCL), this is embedded in our curriculum and facilitated at MechSpace. MechSpace is a practical teaching space where students learn to apply their theoretical skills to real-world engineering problems. It's a safe space to try things out, iteratively improve, and learn from those experiences. While having dedicated physical space is a great start for this learning format, it needs to be underpinned by the digital tools at the forefront of Industry 4.0. Autodesk Fusion software serves as the digital backbone for all that we do at UCL, from ultraefficient hydrogen-powered vehicles to minimally invasive heart surgery devices. Using MechSpace as a case study, this talk will explain the benefits of Autodesk Fusion, from hands-on teaching of design fundamentals to enhancing the student-led education experience within UCL.

Considering the imminent climate crisis, we need to reduce our emissions drastically. However, at the same time, the mobility sector is steadily growing. One solution can be the Hyperloop, promising shorter travel times than air passenger travel with fewer emissions. mu-zero HYPERLOOP is a team of 50+ passionate students from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with a mission to contribute to a sustainable future of transportation. Each year, we design and build a Hyperloop Pod using Autodesk Fusion software, and ultimately compete very successfully against other teams at the European Hyperloop Week (EHW). This session will explore how we use Fusion to design and manage a complex project with 25,000+ components and collaborate with 50+ team members. Learn how to use Fusion as a comprehensive platform for concept sketching, simulation, generative design, and the handling of large assemblies and streamlined manufacturing workflows.

Pierlite (business of Signify, formerly Philips Lighting) had a vision to supply project quantities of bespoke lighting products, designed by customers in real time and manufactured within a week. To deliver this unique value proposition to the market, Pierlite partnered with Tentech to design a new business model. This collaboration involved the implementation of Minute Configurator, a configuration interface and engine used to integrate product data, purchasing, planning, and production. Minute Configurator used parameterized models and a generation engine to let users customize lighting solutions, displaying a live 3D render and providing instant technical data. Production was streamlined with automated ordering and optimization of manufacturing processes, delivering a reduction in human resource. Configuration can revolutionize a broad range of product development processes, delivering speed, customization, and a new user experience.

This case study explores how Curiosity 3D—an Autodesk Learning Partner—is using the power of Autodesk Fusion software and 3D printing to revolutionize education in India by making online education hands-on. The idea was born at a time when the world stopped—the COVID-19 era. Universities and schools were shut, but education found a way and went online, and learning became e-learning. However, this was at the expense of practical hands-on learning experiences. Learn how Curiosity solved this by shipping 3D printers to students' homes! While Fusion was taught online, students 3D-printed projects at home. The design and make journey never stopped. This session will take you through examples of similar innovative strategies that are driving education in emerging markets like India. It will also explore how market challenges—such as limited lab infrastructure, accessibility, and affordability—can be overcome while maintaining hands-on experience and effectively preparing for the future of work.

Of environmental impact, 80% is determined at the design phase. Yet designers have no way to understand the impacts of their design choices. To enable such calculations to happen, Manufacturing Data Model offers promising opportunities for sustainability partners to use and enable impact analysis. In this presentation, we'll walk you through how ProtoTech Solutions and SimaPro used the new functionalities of the Manufacturing Data Model APIs to ease the extraction of critical data for impact calculations like user's design (component) information (last modified, version number, name, id, and so on), and bring the results information into the design using Manufacturing Data Model writeback custom properties capability. Overall, this presentation will showcase how Manufacturing Data Model is helping automate sustainability workflows for partners and customers.
