During Autodesk University 2019, we saw many applications of Autodesk’s generative design features. Most of them shared one common feature: the final model was heavily modified from the generated shape. Adapting the generative design outcome for production and meeting usage requirements—sometimes sophisticated—is the most time-consuming and problematic task. Although this topic raises doubts and ambiguities, it seems to be largely overlooked and insufficiently explained. It's like a bottleneck in a smooth generative-design workflow—like a gap between an excellent generative solver and many established manufacturing methods. We want to bridge this gap and comprehensively address this issue for anyone working with or interested in generative design. By better understanding the solver, knowing the restrictions in manufacturing, and discovering right techniques, you can not only post process an outcome faster, but even generate it smarter to have a production-ready model that meets all expectations!

3D printing has the potential to revolutionize the way we make almost everything; yet materials currently being used are neither environmentally sustainable nor optimized for the 3D-printing process. Applied to large-scale structures, 3D printing is becoming a topic of growing interest in large part because of the urgent need to increase both productivity and safety on construction sites. Part of the appeal of the 3D printing of large-scale structures is that it offers the opportunity to robotically automate construction in extreme or hostile environments. However, while the extrusive material of choice for most investigative researchers is currently concrete, the concrete industry is one of the largest contributors to human-produced CO2 emissions worldwide. This roundtable will discuss the environmental and technical opportunities and concerns related to concrete 3D printing, and alternative approaches.

We'll explore the tools and techniques that are available in Fusion 360 to help you repair a wide variety of fusion errors and warnings that can happen when working with a Fusion 360 design. We'll expose you to enough of the internals of Fusion 360 so that you can understand the root cause of these errors. We believe this understanding will help you both to fix the errors when they happen and also how to design/edit in such a way that you avoid ever seeing the errors in the first place. To design any product in today’s world we need two major things: input and software. We already have a software system that can help in designing a product, and input comes from the OEM that wants the product. What if we have a database that is having an input, which the OEM is providing? With the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), we can create an ecosystem that will fetch the exact data from Autodesk PLM 360 and import it in Autodesk Fusion 360 software. This will help reduce time spent and cost for the building of any product. By way of illustration, consider the creation of a car seat in the automotive business. H point, range for recliners, track, and height adjustment are all major factors to consider while designing a seat structure. When the appropriate inputs are given, there are significant Tier 1 providers with vast amount of data that can assist in locating the correct seat. Consider integrating Autodesk PLM 360 with AI and ML to help reduce the amount of effort, time, and money necessary to build the seats and to improve the product further.

When company leaders purchase Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage software for their organization, they’re typically looking to manage their Items and Bills of Materials (BOMs), the change process that goes along with it, and quality processes. What some customers don't realize, though, is that they don't have to stop at managing workflows within Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage. Since the tool has the capabilities of building a workspace from scratch—and, more importantly, the ability to build any workflow with the workflow editor—users are really only limited by their imaginations in terms of what business processes they manage with Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage. Victoria Hand Project (VHP) is a charity that designs and deploys low-cost, 3D-printed prosthetic arms in developing countries. VHP provides medical professionals in low-income countries with the tools and training to create custom prosthetic arms. VHP has developed software solutions which use Autodesk Fusion 360 software to efficiently create these devices. Recently, VHP struggled to create prosthetic devices for upper-arm amputees (i.e., above elbow), due to the complex geometry of the 3D scans and the in-depth knowledge/workflow required to make the devices. Through the new Autodesk Fusion 360 Product Design Extension, VHP can now organically convert the complex mesh bodies of upper-arm scans into solid bodies for further 3D modeling. This has substantially improved the workflow of creating upper-arm prosthetic sockets, and allows for automation using APIs. This empowers VHP’s in-country partners to create custom upper-arm prosthetic devices quickly and easily, allowing for improved access to prosthetic care.
