The complexity and limited accessibility of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) data have hindered its broader use. Traditionally confined to users proficient in specialized technology like Revit software, interactive dashboards are now a more intuitive way to consume and use this data. With Autodesk Power BI Data Connector, data from traditional authoring applications can seamlessly integrate into Power BI, providing a consolidated view of key metrics. This class will explore how to create Data Exchanges and use them to build interactive dashboards through practical examples such as the Electrical Systems Dashboard for reviewing calculations, material takeoff across multiple projects analysis using the AEC Data Model API, and a Space Dashboard for senior engineers to assess thermal loads and airflow. By the end of the session, participants will learn to create visually appealing reports and dashboards that offer a single-pane view of critical metrics, KPIs, and trends.

In 2018, HMC Architects created a dedicated digital practice to support the firm's digital transformation. A major pillar of HMC's digital practice is technology training, which serves to develop the "digital IQ" of team members in their adoption of the latest technologies and methods. As the leader of this division of digital practice, the speaker has developed technology training regimens to increase HMC's project teams' technical abilities, implementation of cloud-based collaboration, and other advanced building information modeling (BIM)-based workflows. Today, our technology training has merged with all of HMC's learning and development training with the implementation of a unified learning management system. From here, we'll have the ability to integrate more of the firm's business data and gain insights into how our people make the greatest impact on design outcomes.

Discover how we addressed design collaboration and seamless coordination among numerous designers and contractors in the world's longest immersed tunnel. During the basic design, 700+ models were created in Revit software to define complex elements like fire safety, lighting, ventilation, electrical, and ICA systems. To expedite progress, we implemented automations with Dynamo to swiftly model repetitive elements along the tunnel alignments. This helped us achieve a 70% time reduction in modeling and production costs. Real-time interdisciplinary collaboration was vital, along with streamlining information exchange, which Autodesk Construction Cloud facilitated as the ultimate source of truth for the 30 members involved in developing cloud-based models. IDOM dives into the details of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link project during the session, seeking to inspire others by showcasing the remarkable engineering feats and collaborative efforts on a global scale.

Railway systems have complex rules to follow during the design phase, and their automation is highly required due to the massive and systematic work that needs to be done, and the very detailed list of materials necessary. The catenary system is one of the most complex systems in railway. Using Civil 3D, Revit, and Dynamo software, we can automate the design process and create the best workflow—which we'll demonstrate in this session, including complex parametric families, and automatic section views for each mast with dimensions. We'll also demonstrate some other systems' design automation, like CCTV and the automatic creation of camera field-of-vision 3D views for the train driver and metro station platform cameras to achieve the best installation criteria and avoid rework during construction phase. Plus, we'll explore how to convert all of these scripts to plug-in buttons with pyRevit.

Increasing need for data and AI is creating unprecedented demand for data-center capacity, while social and regulatory pressure demands reduced energy and water consumption. Serial hyperscale, co- location, and "edge" clients are driving innovation in design and industrialization, using digital libraries of configurable, scalable solutions for repeatable, standardized designs that can be amended to suit local codes and site constraints. Benefits include that solutions capture and optimize for a wide range of stakeholder needs. In addition, creating rules-based relationships allows design automation, and site-specific designs are created in hours. The approach facilitates supply chain input—using standard products reduces lead times and alleviates pressure on suppliers. Individual elements can be refined "offline" and reintroduced when ready—critical for bringing in new technology for cooling and decarbonization without total redesign. Automotive does this well, leading to continual improvement, not constant reinvention.

Challenging the deconstruction and decontamination of a former industrial site: the refinery of Dunkerque in France. From a huge data sets of 30 000 old plans and a dynamic scan of a 90Ha area, the low LOD Revit models were made manually but also automatically using IA with image recognition. The representations of the contamination and lithology is modelled with voxels and informed using interpolation scripts with Dynamo directly from georeferenced boreholes stored in excel datasheets. The aim of this BIM model is to create scenariis of depollution depending of what is located underground : pipes, concrete and pollutants.

Road infrastructure consists of many simple elements—road signs, traffic barriers, traffic lights, and so on. Creating and placing them separately in large infrastructure projects can be very labor intensive. In this technical presentation, we’ll demonstrate how to automate the creation of an intelligent model for road infrastructure using Dynamo scripts and universal Revit families. This class will teach you how to organize a geographic information system (GIS) system of a traffic management plan in Civil 3D software and effectively transfer it to an InfraWorks model. Learn how to set up an effective link between a 2D plan and the consolidated intelligent model in accordance with the information embedded in the vector objects. We’ll also cover the creation of parametric barriers in Inventor software for InfraWorks, and how to apply parametric barriers for component roads in InfraWorks. See a demonstration of the Dynamo script that places barriers on the appropriate position in the consolidated model in accordance with the attributes of the barrier’s points from the 2D plan.

To meet global demand for affordable and sustainable housing, the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry must streamline the design-to-construction process. Modular builders—like Factory_OS—are doing just that by productizing their building systems to generate customizable buildings from a catalog of construction-ready unit types. With Factory_OS, Autodesk Research has developed new design methods that connect their building unit catalog with AI-powered generative design to create multiple design options. This case study demonstrates how new procedural design systems enabled rapid, no-code design exploration while balancing trade-offs between cost, carbon, and habitability. The study also showcases how the prototype made it onto Autodesk Forma using the developer extension model to deliver customized novel design functionality and metrics. Going beyond existing capabilities, Autodesk Research and Autodesk Forma enabled Factory_OS to rapidly and intuitively evaluate new development projects in a data-informed manner.

Building configurators are essential in the industrialized construction (IC) space. By using tools like Dynamo with Revit software, we can efficiently create an assembled building using basic design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) assumptions. A configurator enables us to quickly search libraries for company assemblies and their parameter values, suggest previously engineered products (assemblies), and place these suggested products in their assumed project locations. Using this tool reduces a three-week process to one hour, and it unifies data with design, all while creating a reliable model. In this class, you'll learn the techniques involved in building a configurator with Revit and Dynamo software. You'll also learn how to evolve the process for continuous optimization, create custom searches for your products, filter methods that mimic DfMA logic and how to consume other massing inputs. Lastly, we will share lessons learned in our own experiences building configurators and discuss what resources were needed.

TileGPT is an LLM-powered prototype developed within Autodesk Research to generate optimized designs using intuitive and flexible text-based input. As Autodesk shifts to platform thinking, GraphQL is the choice for a developer-friendly alternative to a REST API. Our GraphQL APIs enable customers to work across the many data sources for their projects—whether buildings for construction, manufactured components, or assets in a media production. And there should be a common solution for data access when working with the rich, granular data stored in these Autodesk Data Models and Data Exchanges. This presentation will be a case study of how GraphQL was used to build data connectors between Autodesk’s platform and third-party applications. Our engineering team collaborated with System Integrators to produce several connectors—for Microsoft’s Power BI and Power Automate, and Autodesk Dynamo. Each connector shared common and unique integration challenges. We’d like to share our journey of discovery that resulted in customer utility and reveal how we brought the Autodesk Data Models to life through successful integration use cases.

This session will outline a workflow for creating a Revit model of a steel composite cable stay bridge by using a combo of Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Informed Design for Inventor software. Modeling a bridge structure poses challenges due to its complex geometry, which adheres to a vertical, horizontal, and super-elevated roadway profile. Consequently, the steel girders, beams, and connection details must align with this 3D roadway profile, complicating the creation and placement of Revit families. For this challenge, COWI used Grasshopper and Dynamo to automate the creation of steel geometry, parameters, and insertion points, ensuring accurate orientation for family placement. Additionally, Informed Design was used to transform various iterations of intricate steel connections into families, which were then positioned using a Dynamo workflow. The integration of visual programming and Informed Design has been vital in efficiently producing complex bridge structures with a focus on automation.
