Head in the Cloud and Boots on the Ground 2.0: Enhancing Communication by Deploying 3D Models to the Field with ACC

Last year we explored “easy wins”—how to break down the technical and cultural barriers preventing site teams from accessing and using digital project information. What’s next? This session will pick up where we left off, showcasing how Hansen Yuncken has evolved its approach to fully integrate Construction Cloud into daily site operations, ensuring the right people have the data they need when they need it. Meaningful use of models during construction continues to be a significant challenge for us as an industry hooked on PDFs and spreadsheets. This year, we’ll dive deeper into the use of 3D model information in the field to connect and visualize data from Construction Cloud. Automating a Complex Revit Bridge Model with Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Informed Design

This session will outline a workflow for creating a Revit model of a steel composite cable stay bridge by using a combo of Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Informed Design for Inventor software. Modeling a bridge structure poses challenges due to its complex geometry, which adheres to a vertical, horizontal, and super-elevated roadway profile. Consequently, the steel girders, beams, and connection details must align with this 3D roadway profile, complicating the creation and placement of Revit families. For this challenge, COWI used Grasshopper and Dynamo to automate the creation of steel geometry, parameters, and insertion points, ensuring accurate orientation for family placement. Additionally, Informed Design was used to transform various iterations of intricate steel connections into families, which were then positioned using a Dynamo workflow. The integration of visual programming and Informed Design has been vital in efficiently producing complex bridge structures with a focus on automation.

From Legacy to : Scan. Model. Transform.

Elevating the digital maturity of our clients' factories, we aim to transform traditional manufacturing practices by transitioning from outdated paper-based drawings to the powerful concept of the . We start by scanning the facility to generate a 3D point cloud, which forms the base for architectural and MEP models in Revit software. These are imported into Inventor software, where we design and optimize the production line with machinery, conveyors, and robots. Factory Design Utilities software allows us to quickly build detailed layouts. With Navisworks software, we perform clash detection and offer virtual reality (VR) walk-throughs. FlexSim simulates the workflow to ensure efficiency. For data management, we use Vault Pro software and Construction Cloud, while Tandem software improves operations.
