Clash detection is integral during the design process to ensure coordinated and ready-for-construction models are produced. A properly implemented clash detection practice will result in a reduced number of RFIs during construction, and ultimately decreases the costs associated with uncoordinated design models. An offline clash detection process becomes increasingly challenging in a design-build megaproject where dozens of models are developed at a fast pace. Therefore, there is a need for a cloud-based, collaborative, and centralized clash detection platform where the designed models are actively integrated and monitored collectively for outstanding coordination issues. BIM 360 Design software’s platform lets users conduct such a clash detection practice as it hosts live design models, and it provides a built-in clash detection module (that is to say Model Coordination). Learn how Model Coordination was used to clash and report on the LAX Automated People Mover Project.

Learn how to share models from Revit software to BIM 360 Docs software using BIM 360 Design software, and then how to use this model in BIM 360 Model Coordination for Clash Detection, reviewing clash with team, creating issues, and more. Model Coordination provides a shared space to publish, review, and run clashes on your latest set of project models and upload 3D models to a centralized Model Coordination folder, and the clash service automatically locates any issues in those models. This is a roundtable to discuss the future of digital design collaboration tools between design professionals and clients. Tools like Revit software, 3ds Max software, and Navisworks software have been designed to facilitate collaboration with our peers, consultants, and internal teams. As projects increase in complexity and clients become more integrated into the design process, these current tools don't lend themselves well for enabling client interaction with Building Information Modeling (BIM) models and 3D visualization building models. Through experience and expertise we can generate a vision for how these tools could be augmented to help in this collaboration. Perhaps it's a new tool that helps bridge the gap and provides easy access to the complex 3D data that design professionals create. How do we address this need today? What challenges must be overcome and how can BIM models become more accessible to serve our clients? Through our discussion we'll help craft a vision for the next generation of digital collaboration tools.

Modern communication lets people to talk to each other almost anywhere at any time. But using audio and video conferencing is very different than face-to-face communication. In this talk, we will show how we can use augmented reality (AR), reality capturing, and Autodesk technologies to create new types of connected design collaboration experiences that overcome limitations of traditional technology. We will share how to turn intelligent models with 3ds Max software into immersive experiences. We will show how 3D capture technology lets 3D models of people be captured and transmitted to different locations. When combined with AR displays such as Microsoft HoloLens, these technologies let users see, hear, and interact with remote participants in 3D as if they were actually present in the same physical space, and at the same time collaborate with 3D design models. This enables engineers to collaborate over distance, provides a deeper understanding of the design, and enables better-informed decisions in less time.

Collaborative construction methodologies are ever changing as design, trade, and contracting partners develop more-efficient and more-effective ways to deliver projects to customers. As part of bridging the gap to true collaboration, teams need to overcome barriers and find a balance between contracts and true partnership. One large component of working together to design and construct buildings is managing the intelligent model. Traditionally, there are multiple intelligent models in a variety of platforms that each partner creates to execute their design or construction work. This method results in wasteful efforts, as designers and contractors redesign and rework the model for coordination and fabrication for their scope of work. The One Model approach is an integrated design process that eliminates this redundancy and creates a different level of collaboration by utilizing Revit software and the BIM 360 platform.
