By using Autodesk Forma (Forma Data Management, Forma Build, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and ReCap software), the case study will demonstrate practical applications in three pivotal phases: design, construction, and operations and maintenance (O&M). Through two real-world examples, you’ll gain insights into how these tools work together to optimize project outcomes and ensure seamless integration across different stages.

In this session we’ll discuss why Hazen chose to implement the Design features of Autodesk Forma for Civil 3D, Plant 3D, and Revit after extensively testing a variety of other Document Management Systems (Nasuni, Panzura, ProjectWise, BIM 360). Things covered will be: How testing was performed and over what time frame. The key factors that led to Hazen to choose ACC. What our experience was with each DMS. How Hazen is transitioning to ACC from other Document Management Systems. What the positives and negatives are of utilizing ACC Design. Learn how to raise the visibility of the design process by giving project managers, engineers, and other teams access to your model data without interrupting the design process. Power BI can help answer questions like: What's the project progress in modeling? How many lines still need isometrics? Did all my equipment get modeled yet? Is my line list complete? These are common questions to ask, but they can require so much work to get an answer that the design process has to stop. With Power Bi, your reporting and project status information can be pulled in parallel with your design efforts. By being able to bring the status information to a weekly stand-up meeting, your team can focus on discussing solutions instead of discovering problems.

Multidiscipline collaboration is key when using different tools for each discipline. Forma Design Collaboration software helps different teams that are using different design tools from different locations to coordinate design and engineering work more easily and efficiently. We’ll solve the challenge of combining Revit software for architectural, structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) design and AutoCAD Plant 3D software for industrial piping design. We’ll share specific workflows using Autodesk Forma that address both simple sharing needs (for consultants and owners for example) as well as co-authoring controlled and coordinated design.

AutoCAD (& verticals) Plant 3D, and Revit all have different workflows with ACC/BIM 360 projects and the Desktop Connector. After many challenging hours I believe I have finally found a way to explain the various ACC/BIM 360 workflows and would like to share this knowledge with everyone else who's also dealing with all these various workflows and collaboration options. Specifically, I'm going to cover working with Revit, Plant 3D, and Civil 3D (same workflows for AutoCAD) with ACC and/or BIM 360 projects. I'll also cover the Desktop Connector 15 and 16 and the differences we've encountered, good and bad.

With Autodesk's acquisition of PlanGrid and release of Autodesk Forma there are several tools that assist in the flow of project information. Water infrastructure owners and operators face poor asset information handover due to system misalignment. Could Automation, Integration, & Customization and integrated data enable Digital Prototypings to support operational efficiency, reduce rework and costs, and improve health and safety (H&S)? Learn how GHD successfully used client-focused data exchange and cloud collaboration during the 40MLD upgrade of Wellington Water Limited’s Te Mārua water treatment plant to ease these struggles. Automating the integration of asset information using Autodesk products enabled delivery of the asset register 12 months early—saving NZ$150,000 and 1,400 hours in asset data management. Combining Esri mobile apps and dashboards enhanced as-built quality and reduced site H&S risks. A proof of concept was developed where GeoBIM and Forma Data Management software were fused to create a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) common data environment (CDE)—the foundation for an operations and maintenance Digital Prototyping. We’ll share valuable lessons on managing evolving data needs and supply chains to demonstrate how connected workflows made Project Delivery more efficient.
