Increasing need for data and AI is creating unprecedented demand for data-center capacity, while social and regulatory pressure demands reduced energy and water consumption. Serial hyperscale, co- location, and "edge" clients are driving innovation in design and industrialization, using digital libraries of configurable, scalable solutions for repeatable, standardized designs that can be amended to suit local codes and site constraints. Benefits include that solutions capture and optimize for a wide range of stakeholder needs. In addition, creating rules-based relationships allows design automation, and site-specific designs are created in hours. The approach facilitates supply chain input—using standard products reduces lead times and alleviates pressure on suppliers. Individual elements can be refined "offline" and reintroduced when ready—critical for bringing in new technology for cooling and decarbonization without total redesign. Automotive does this well, leading to continual improvement, not constant reinvention.

2024 is a pivotal year for BBI Autosport as we transition to being a small-volume, boutique vehicle development and manufacturing firm. Visualizing masterplans with many buildings can be a time-consuming task, often leading to the use of massing volumes well beyond early design stages. However, as a project progresses, you don't have to compromise on quality. Discover the potential of procedural modeling and texturing techniques to improve your masterplan renders. This presentation will combine 3ds Max 2024 software's latest features with RailClone and Forest Pack, enabling new, efficient, procedural modeling approaches. Learn how to visualize hundreds of buildings that can be effortlessly updated, customized, and refined for a highly optimized workflow. A compelling masterplan visualization involves more than buildings. We will delve into procedural methods for incorporating elements such as pavements, street furniture, lighting, and road markings. The session will conclude with tips on how to add large numbers of realistic trees, plants, vehicles, people, and other essential elements automatically and with minimal effort.

In this class, we’ll cover four topics of automotive manufacturing: mold simulation and CAM, factory planning, automated manufacturing, and emerging design and manufacturing technology. We’ll begin with the challenges that automotive tooling companies face, and how the use of new technology and increased machine utilization can address the needs of more-complex and accurate tooling. From there we’ll move to factory planning and ways in which to address the challenges that drive change in manufacturing facilities; the problems that arise because of change; and the use of a unified digital model to manage this. We’ll then look at how manufacturing productivity can be increased using intelligent automation, and how it can improve consistency and component reliability. And we’ll finish discussing the use of emerging technology like generative design and additive and hybrid manufacturing, as manufacturers look to improve performance and efficiency of vehicles to meet sustainability and regulatory requirements.

In this class we will go over some of the new features in Alias software that can help in procedural modeling techniques, and tools that you can create with scripts to be driven through Dynamo software. Dynamo is a visual programming platform that you can use to create custom algorithms to process data and generate geometry. Since version 2019, we have had an integration of Dynamo in our Alias line of products (Concept, Surface, and AutoStudio). With the latest release of 2021, we have included Dynamo player, which enables anyone to run scripts and capitalize on the power of these tools to improve workflows and processes to save time and effort.

Learn about all the possibilities that Shotgun software can unlock within the design studio workflow. In this session, we will dive into deeper technical applications of Shotgun, and how to configure Shotgun Toolkit to automate routine tasks and customize data hand-offs.

In the real world, one program just can’t do it all. Sketching, massing models, final design, animation, and rendering of engineering models; this class will discuss the workflow for using multiple Autodesk products in a production environment. Discover the ins and outs of this workflow, starting with a SketchBook, moving to a massing model, then Inventor software for final design, and finally 3ds Max software and Arnold software to render the final animation. Learn how Drive can help manage the workflow files, review the Inventor-to-3ds-Max import process, and learn how to render photo-quality images. Use Physical Materials and the Sun Positioner to simulate outdoor lighting and composition to create compelling images. Utilize the Physical Camera controls to adjust the scene exposure and depth of field. Get ahead of the competition by learning to create your renderings using photographic composition in a streamlined workflow.

Step by step, you’ll learn how to choose a parking-lot style that is right for your site. Select the appropriate vehicle to check for turning movements and height clearances. Create a roundabout junction corridor to add to an existing AutoCAD Civil 3D software road corridor. You’ll also generate reports and customize the settings and standards for a specific project.

Design review sessions are an essential part of product development for everything from automotive to architecture to manufacturing. It is essential to bring together stakeholders and experts from all disciplines—including design, engineering, and manufacturing—early in the design process. Visualizing prototype designs in VRED software in real time has been invaluable in discovering potential issues and delivering better products on a faster cycle. We have developed a set of design review tools implemented in Python inside of VRED to enable work sessions to be more effective and create a documentation trail for concrete decision making without resorting to as much physical prototype construction. Using ray tracing, VRED can enable reliable review of design details, especially glass, mirrors, and metals. Real-time remote collaboration enables participation from far-flung departments around the world without requiring travel. This session will explore case studies and demonstrate these capabilities.

Direct modeling is an extremely powerful tool in Fusion 360 software. The use of features that follow natural gestures and movements (i.e., pull, twist, stretch) empowers users to fully immerse in a modeling experience that provides enjoyment, exploration, and a sense of “flow.” Direct modeling can also bypass steps such as setting planes, sketches, and other 3D commands, which could get in the way of modeling workflows. While direct modeling is typically associated with T-Splines via the Sculpt environment, it is possible to also use it in parametric settings. This presentation will illustrate the power of direct modeling in both environments in Fusion 360 software with the use of simple yet effective workflows and design examples.

This class will cover a concept design workflow using Alias Create VR software, Alias subdivision, Alias detailing, and VRED visualization techniques.

AI tech may get all the attention, but there isn't an AI solution for the critical workflows that architects need to tell the stories of their projects. Designers want visualizations that simultaneously capture a building's aesthetic complexity and the hard data points of energy efficiency, occupant movement, and traffic flow. AI isn't delivering, and Chaos is stepping up. Come see the latest tools for Revit users to conduct energy analysis, with results that can be generated and understood by everyone contributing to your Revit project. Then see how to easily assemble visualizations from across teams and creation tools into real-time explorations, with animations features that go far beyond what design tools are made to support. Learn how quickly you can bring design options to life with stunning ray-traced rendering, dynamic crowds of digital humans, and realistic vehicles traffic. Chaos will show how all of this is possible today for the casual users while meeting the demands of specialists.

Applied learning is at the core of defining every graduate's progression to becoming a professional engineer. For mechanical engineering students at University College London (UCL), this is embedded in our curriculum and facilitated at MechSpace. MechSpace is a practical teaching space where students learn to apply their theoretical skills to real-world engineering problems. It's a safe space to try things out, iteratively improve, and learn from those experiences. While having dedicated physical space is a great start for this learning format, it needs to be underpinned by the digital tools at the forefront of Industry 4.0. Autodesk Fusion software serves as the digital backbone for all that we do at UCL, from ultraefficient hydrogen-powered vehicles to minimally invasive heart surgery devices. Using MechSpace as a case study, this talk will explain the benefits of Autodesk Fusion, from hands-on teaching of design fundamentals to enhancing the student-led education experience within UCL.

Most extended reality (XR) applications rely on handheld controllers or hand-tracking technology to interact with virtual content. Interactions such as "pointing," "selecting," or "touching" objects in virtual reality (VR) are typical use cases. Sometimes these input methods can be cumbersome for inexperienced VR users to work with, leading to frustration, extended training/setup time, or missed opportunities. Learn how the VRED API—along with its integrated web server and Varjo Marker tracking—can be used to enable intuitive methods of input by using your smartphone as the input device.
