In today's environment of digital project delivery, many opportunities exist for enhancing current project delivery processes from design to construction. This sharing session will build upon last year's tech talk: "Bridging Innovative Opportunities for Digital Project Delivery." It will touch upon the innovative initiative of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)—the Project Delivery Collaboration Center (PDCC)—which had a soft rollout in Spring 2024. The PDCC is meant to be a one-stop shop or hub for project managers. The initial rollout familiarized teams with the backbone of the solution, Autodesk Construction Cloud. As the PDCC continues to develop and evolve, integrations with department systems and other off-the-shelf solutions will be implemented. A few key integrations in development are with Asta Powerproject Vision, Bentley Systems' ProjectWise, Sitelink, and Voyager. Behind the scenes, the PDCC is not one solution; but to the end user, the intent is that it appears as one.

Any building information modeling (BIM) software can be considered a game engine: it has geometry, data, and interaction. As a BIM manager, you want to design workflows that are easy for your team to follow, and be ready for a variety of exceptions. That's not too different from a game master designing a game logic for the player to follow. What are the rules? What's the outcome? What's the interface that helps players/users navigate your logic? How can you keep players/users engaged? How can you achieve all of this within the capacity/limitation of Revit software? The complexity and limited accessibility of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) data have hindered its broader use. Traditionally confined to users proficient in specialized technology like Revit software, interactive dashboards are now a more intuitive way to consume and use this data. With Autodesk Power BI Data Connector, data from traditional authoring applications can seamlessly integrate into Power BI, providing a consolidated view of key metrics. This class will explore how to create Data Exchanges and use them to build interactive dashboards through practical examples such as the Electrical Systems Dashboard for reviewing calculations, material takeoff across multiple projects analysis using the AEC Data Model API, and a Space Dashboard for senior engineers to assess thermal loads and airflow. By the end of the session, participants will learn to create visually appealing reports and dashboards that offer a single-pane view of critical metrics, KPIs, and trends.

Learn how Victus Engineering, a small MEP firm in St. Paul, Minnesota, used the next generation of Insight to design a sustainable library building. Miron Construction has been using BIM 360 software and the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform for several years now, and has gained valuable experience on how best to set up the building information modeling (BIM) coordination process using all the features of Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, and Revit software. We will lay out how using cloud-based workshared models that are bridged to and from multiple sites, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro licensing, and controlled scheduled publishing can bring efficiencies to your BIM coordination workflow. In updating the Master Drainage Plan for Brookings, South Dakota, ISG faced challenges reconciling flood risk maps with community experiences. Despite a doubling of the flood-risk area, doubts arose due to discrepancies with historical records and incomplete evaluations of existing flood-reduction efforts. Using InfoWorks ICM software, ISG employed advanced modeling techniques to generate a more accurate flood map, enabling prioritization of mitigation projects. Stakeholder engagement ensured realistic modeling, leading to actionable results and strategies for water quality improvement. This approach underscores the importance of informed modeling in building resilient communities amid climate change uncertainties.

For several years, KLH Engineers has led efforts to bridge the gap between AutoCAD and Revit software through machine learning, enhancing our deliverable by building intelligent models from CAD plans. Expanding on our foundational work from 2019, our tool now automatically generates Revit wall elements with precise thickness from AutoCAD drawings, eliminating the problem of thin wall creation and significantly saving time. We have incorporated advanced algorithms that accurately place door and window families within Revit models, using AutoCAD data to inform our workflow and put the "I" back in building information modeling (BIM). But regardless of the tools used and efficiency in practice, projects are completed. Much has been made of the existential threat AI poses to many professions. However, due to the complex nature of architectural projects, we need not fear losing our design agency (or employment) to an AI architect. While there's work over which architects want and need to maintain control, there's also plenty of work that architects would gladly hand over to an AI bot. Using AI allows architects to focus on meaningful design work, rather than tedious minutiae. Also, by passing off more-menial tasks to AI, junior staff can be empowered to get more-meaningful experience. This will be demonstrated through practical examples of how AI is integrated into multiple workflows and processes at ZGF Architects, including project benchmarking, Revit automation/standardization, and semantic search of code documents.
