In the contemporary AEC industry, it is as crucial to be able to quickly conceptualize and visualize a design as it is to document and, ultimately, materialize it rapidly and reliably. This class covers the use of specialized tools and methods for conceptual early stages modeling and their integration into a BIM environment (Revit® Structure software) that enables reliable material assignment, quantification, and documentation.

This class will be an overview of how managing production within the Autodesk manufacturing ecosystem lets seamless workflows and real-time insight into production status. We will demonstrate a workflow- starting in design within Autodesk CAD Solutions, moving to programming with Autodesk CAM Solutions, demonstrating production tracking and quality assurance in Fusion 360 Production, and showing how production data can be fed back into design and programming to increase overall production speed and efficiency. These clear communication channels can dramatically reduce the amount of overhead that job shops need to manage by presenting the right information to the right people at the right time. This is the benefit of operating within the Autodesk network.

This class will show you how to use Google Earth™ to import GIS information using AutoCAD® Civil 3D® and Autodesk® Revit® software. Autodesk Revit and Autodesk® Ecotect® Analysis software will be used to properly analyze, place, and orient the design of the building. Autodesk® Revit® MEP and Autodesk® Revit® Structure software will be used to design the energy analysis and cost analysis for the class. Upon completion of any structural-related building within Autodesk Revit, an energy analysis template will be used to track all electrical and heating costs for the owner’s operational use. A second template will dictate the cost of building construction using Autodesk Revit and Autodesk® Navisworks® software. Upon completion of the Revit 3D model and cost analysis templates, Autodesk Navisworks will be used to simulate the IDP construction process. The audience will see documentation on how 3D IDP is integrated, from the Civil GIS phase to the construction and bidding phase.

The ability to tailor or customize AutoCAD software has always been the product's strength. Customization can be as easy as creating a personal workspace. Workspaces provide consistency in the workflow, which can make the user more productive. But what about those frequently used commands or functions that aren’t always readily available? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to execute a command macro, which then would execute a series of commands to avoid that repetition? Wouldn’t it be great to have a custom Ribbon panel where one can easily group all of these custom macros? It's easy to do this without programming knowledge by customizing the CUI (customize user interface)—and you can then share that customization with the entire CAD department to improve productivity and enforce CAD standards for all users. In addition to learning how to add commands to AutoCAD and create new tabs and panels for your workspace, you will learn how to add a custom partial menu to the main customization file and add that to an enterprise CUIx.

Autodesk CAD, CAM, and CAE Solutions can be applied to the design and manufacture of high-quality molds to produce visually and dimensionally correct plastic parts at minimum cycle time. Moldflow tools ensure optimum mold design based on such considerations as best feed and cooling system placement and sizing. Designing molds for balanced and easy cavity filling will reduce mold stresses and extend mold life. Autodesk CAM tools, from Delcam, facilitate efficient design and manufacture of precision molds using subtractive and additive methods. Additive methods (also known as 3D printing) enable the manufacture of innovative, complex, and lighter-weight components in various applications. Netfabb tools can automatically generate lighter-weight designs, and then optimize component orientation, deflections, and supports to make the additive manufacturing process successful. This class will show the workflow utilizing the Moldflow, CAM, and Netfabb software systems to ensure right-first-time manufacturing.

Who else is the Factory Design Utilities software useful for, besides factory planners? With the integration of Factory Design Utilities inside the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, everyone has access to this effective tool to layout spaces with Inventor assets. Aside from the usual approach of planning factories, we will look at examples from trade fairs, retail environments, event planning, playgrounds, cafeterias, and others. We will begin with the asset creation in Inventor software and the space layout in 2D in AutoCAD software. Combined, we will then move to the Factory Design Utilities and understand how these 3 tools can be used in conjunction. We can then explore our layout with Navisworks software to visualize the layouts we create.

3D coordination is now used in most projects to help improve predictability during construction. Usually the geometry is only shown in its final constructed location. While it is a big step forward to improving communication and planning, it doesn’t include the space needed during construction—which limits what can be predicted during the construction process. This session will show how to apply a practical approach to 4D construction simulation, including large-equipment routing, clear work areas, on-site material storage, and key milestone indicators. We are using a combination of Revit software and Navisworks software to visualize and animate these important factors in gaining benefit from virtual construction.

The Revit 2015 software release introduced the ability to link Industry Foundation Class (IFC) files to the Revit software IFC .NET open source code. This ability enables the Revit software API users who are familiar with IFC to make their own customized versions of not only the exporter and associated user interface, but also the importer. This class will start with a technical overview of the IFC format, including the concepts of schemas and Model View Definitions (MVDs) and how they are used in Revit software. We will then cover the major design concepts for the .NET code, particularly the linker, with the intention of understanding how to make simple modifications to the open source. This class is intended for users who have a decent knowledge of IFC but want to know more about the inner workings of the format and how Revit software implements IFC. The class will look at, but not emphasize, Revit 2015 software IFC open source .NET code and the associated Revit software API.

Denver International Airport (DEN) is more than 23 years old and currently going through major redevelopment, including adding 33 new gates to all of its concourses and renovating the main terminal. Having already constructed the Westin Hotel and Convention Center with the aid of BIM (Building Information Modeling) and cloud collaboration, DEN has gone full-blown with implementing BIM 360 Docs software for the Main Terminal Renovation, a.k.a. The Great Hall project. It was the logical choice and platform. The intelligent models needed to be centralized and collaborate with several design teams across different offices throughout the United States and South America. We'll present our approaches, challenges (there were undoubtedly plenty), and solutions from project kickoff through construction. BIM 360 Docs software became the single source of truth for a large and complex project. Autodesk products used in the project include BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Glue software, BIM 360 Field software, Revit 2018 software, and Navisworks Manage 2018 software.

The new Atlanta Falcons stadium is a large, complex project that strives to push sustainability forward in the realm of sports design and construction. The Design Team—led by 360 Architecture, with structural engineer BuroHappold Engineering also responsible for sustainability strategy and exterior lighting design—wanted to include Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) as a part of the decision-making process for the new stadium. Core Sustainability Team members identified the Revit software Tally application as a tool that would provide effective and quick LCA feedback during design. With the project making extensive use of Revit software for effective design coordination, members integrated Tally into the project workflow. This lecture will share lessons learned about the benefits and challenges of using Tally on large-scale projects, and we'll cover the most effective way to use Revit software to generate LCAs in order to reduce the project's environmental impact and raise its public profile with regard to sustainability.

Matthias Bertling (e.GO Mobile AG) and Matthias Dannapfel (WZL of RWTH Aachen University) will provide an overview and introduction to integrated factory modeling (IFM). How can interdisciplinary teams of architects, designers, technical planners, and project managers collaborate? The introduction of an integrated planning approach revolutionizes the planning process in factory planning. This is made possible by the use of different software tools and workflows. From plan, to design, to build, to validate, to operation, the integrated factory model provides unique value to all project participants through different planning phases. Factory planning has never been so effective, transparent, coordinated, and fast. The example of the young, German, automotive startup e.GO Mobile AG shows how IFM is used as a strategic success factor for the planning and realization of new factories in the automotive industry.

For some, the ideal workflow for an Autodesk Revit software project is instinctively driven by past experience and perhaps even by other program dynamics and functions. However, for projects that exceed 500,000 square feet, finding an appropriate workflow that works for all design team parties is critical to the success of the project. This class will dive into some of the trials and tribulations that were experienced on several supersized projects. We will explore appropriate model setup, copying and monitoring of fixtures, collaboration and communication between trades, and other issues as we attempt to answer the question, "When should we do the work?" You will leave this class with a better grasp of some of the largest issues that exist on a supersized architectural endeavor that is executed in Autodesk Revit.

Bridge design, from innovative U-shaped viaducts to long-span bridges, is one of the key products of SYSTRA in developing mass transit and railway infrastructures. In this class, you will see how our bridge experts have embraced BIM (Building Information Modeling) transformation to improve the designing of bridges from the early stages to construction designs. The ambition of this program is to ease the work of our engineers when creating the bridge assets, and aims to provide our client with a digital twin of their infrastructure that is fit for use during operations and maintenance. This development relies on a software application called CABLOA automating the 3D-design authoring processes, and BIM uses such as 2D drawings production, structural simulation, and clash detection with 3D reinforcement or jacks. The presentation of PrestressBIM program will be based on a practical example of a balance cantilever bridge in order to go through all the capacities that have been developed.

This will be a facilitated discussion between industry stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and solution-based software providers. We will look at what challenges electrical contractors and designers have faced in trying to make models that are representative of the real world. We will discuss solutions and experiences through design, coordination, prefabrication, and the in-depth utilization of model data. Using the firsthand experience of our experts, we will talk from the perspective of stakeholders throughout the virtual design and construction process.

As the title suggests, what owners want (need) from BIM (Building Information Modeling) is worlds away from what architects, engineers, and contractors need to build an owner’s building. This session will discuss BIM-related challenges from the architecture, engineering, and construction professional’s and owner’s perspectives. Once an understanding of each party’s unique needs is established, a road map can be developed that will enable collaboration through design, construction, commissioning, and facilities management. A hopeful outcome of this session is to shed some light on the challenging task of understanding differences that will allow for a clear road map moving forward. The gap between the AEC side and the owner side needs to be closed to truly take BIM out of this world.

This class focuses on how models can be developed and used to explain safety hazards and procedures in a safe virtual environment. It shows how BIM tools such as Revit®-based software, Navisworks® Manage, 3ds Max®, and other modeling tools can greatly enhance communication and even help identify common, complex, and unique safety issues. These models can then be taken out into the field using Autodesk tools, such as the Inventor Publisher mobile app, and referenced on tablets, iPads®, and other mobile devices.
