CFD Simulation Workflow: The Botanical Institute of Rome Case Study

Starting from the case study of Botanical Institute of University Campus �La Sapienza� in Rome, this class will explore an airflow simulation study with Autodesk CFD software, giving the information necessary for the development of the design. We'll talk about CFD and its possibilities to optimise design, reducing energy costs and providing occupants with good indoor air quality and a high level of thermal comfort. We'll learn how a CFD code works and introduce the concept of passive bioclimatic design as a strategy for the control of the source of natural thermal. We'll also talk about natural ventilation and other bioclimatic design solutions, understanding the importance of integration between climate design and architectural design disciplines starting from the first stages of the design process or related to an existing building redevelopment.
